Lady Bobcat 'D' stifles LC-M

ORANGEFIELD — Trailing Little Cypress-Mauriceville 31-26 with 2:35 remaining in the third period, the Orangefield Lady Bobcats let their defense show them the way down the stretch.

Forcing the Lady Bears into 16 turnovers in the final 10:25, the Lady Bobcats went on a 23-7 tear as Orangefield went on to post a 49-38 non-district victory at Bobcat Gym Tuesday night.

The Lady Bobcats (7-1) forced the Lady Bears (3-5) into a whopping 39 turnovers on the night.

Trailing by five late in the third, Orangefield turned to the hot hands of Ashton Wagner and post Aimee Scales.

Wagner erupted for 12 of her 14 points in the final 16 minutes, connecting on four three-point missiles in the process. Meanwhile Scales tallied eight of her game-high 15 points in the second half.

The Lady Bobcats outscored LC-M 27-13 in the second half after trailing 25-22 at intermission.

LC-M played outstanding defense throughout as well as they forced Orangefield into 26 turnovers.

Orangefield grabbed a 15-14 edge to finish the first period as Marissa Wyatt torched LC-M for 10 of her 14 total points in the period as she buried two three-pointers.

Guard Kalyn Harkness and Tiffani Thompson kept LC-M on the Lady Bobcats’ heels as both scored five points in the quarter.

LC-M forced 10 Orangefield turnovers in the second period and closed with a 4-0 run to grab the three-point halftime edge. Harkness scored five of her team-high 12 points in the period.

The Lady Bears finished with a 23-18 rebounding advantage.

Shelby Apperson popped for nine points and had six rebounds for LC-M while Elissa Tate had six points and a game-high seven boards.

Scales led Orangefield with four rebounds while Wyatt, Wagner and Kacy Juneau all added three apiece.

Orangefield finished 6-of-10 from the free-throw line while the Lady Bears went 2-of-5.

The Lady Bobcats jump back into action Friday when they travel to Nederland while the Lady Bears host Lumberton Dec. 8 to begin District 20-4A play.

Both Orangefield and LC-M will compete in the Orangefield Tournament Dec. 10-12.
