KFDM COOP Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 Hoop wrap: Cold Lady Bears fall to Lumberton in 20-4A openerVan WadeThe Orange LeaderLITTLE CYPRESS — LITTLE CYPRESS - Too many missed point-blank shots and bad free-throw shooting spelled doom for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears in their District 20-4A opener Tuesday night against Lumberton at the Bear Cave.The Lady Bears (3-6, 0-1) forced the Lady Raiders (4-6, 1-0) into 32 turnovers and outrebounded them 44-33 but the poor shooting was way too much to overcome.The Lady Bears took the lead at 44-43 midway through the fourth period after trailing 41-36 but Lumberton forced LC-M into six turnovers in the final four minutes and Lady Raider Kendall Johnston converted 6-of-7 free throws down the stretch to help seal it.LC-M had too many missed layups and finished 3-of-12 from the free-throw line.Post Shelby Apperson, despite being “mugged†all night long, led the Lady Bears with 14 points and a whopping 19 rebounds. Fellow post Tiffani Thompson had nine points and six boards. Point Kaylynn Harkness had nine points, all coming in the first half. Elissa Tate had six points and five rebounds while Michelle Rigsby pulled down five boards.Post Shelby Bingham paced the Lady Raiders with 14 points and six rebounds. Rachel Kemp had 10 points and six rebounds. Sandy Drake had nine points and six rebounds while Johnston finished with eight points and seven rebounds.The Lady Raiders finished 15-of-20 from the free-throw line while LC-M finished with 20 turnovers.The contest was tight throughout. The Lady Raiders led 23-22 at intermission and 36-34 at the end of the third period.The Lady Bears will compete in the Orangefield Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
