JMO
The same tourney EC was in??? Likely excuse
No need for excuses. We know who was missing in the game. HJ wins in a very tough rivalry game. EC is very well coached. In case no one remembers this team(EC) did nothing but get better as the year went on last year and they will do it again this year. They have a great young coach who will have this program consistantly competing for regional titles shortly Hide and watch.
whsalum Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 HJ spent a huge amount of emotion on Saturday night after a very tough game against Kountze. Couple that with the missing post player and the game gets a lot closer than it should be. EC has a very good young coach but the pieces of the puzzle may not be there for a regional run. They will be in the playoff hunt in their district race with Anahuac and Hardin.

I just mean in the future. This coach gets alot out of his players. May not be a regional run this year but in the future there will be many.
whsalum Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 I won't argue that point. He did a good job preparing them in the 3 games I saw them play last week.

They played just as many games. They were in ever game an only lost by a few at the end with one going to overtime. So they were just as tired. What did hurt HJ was lossing the big kid. When EC put their 6'6'' kid on the floor HJ had no inside game. This EC team has gotten better evernight and come playoff time they will be OK. And HJ has showen how to beat Koun. Get one of their two big men in foul trouble. They have no bench inside. You can not beat the two of them together they are the best tandum I have ever seen at this level. But you can take them one at a time HJ showed you that. GREAT GAME EC Swagg that why they play the game ;D
whsalum Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 That wasn't an excuse TruBlu it was an observation.I'm not from HJ so I don't make excuses for them.I saw several of the Bucs games this past weekend so I know exactly who and how they played.High school ball is all about matchups and emotion. The Hawks were flat tonight and trust me the Bucs don't match up with Lions this year with or without their 2 bigs.I do think EC has a good shot at making the playoffs this year but they will have to beat Anahuac and Hardin to do so and Deweyville will be a challenge at Deweyville.I agree the Hawks are alot better with Ricossa but Anderson had 19 rebounds tonite, that aint bad.

whsalum Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 That's what I was thinking.I'm a big Walker fan and Brey is playing well also but Kountze has those type players every year. Before the it was Busby and Powell. And before that it was Hall and whoever. They just reload.
Guest ECBucFan Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Noteworthy the 2A Bucs were in a 3rd round Football playoff game, while 3A HJ had no FB playoff games. A 3+ week headstart means alot this early in the season. Great job, Bucs!!! :D

I have it all on tape but havent watched it all yet. I dont see anyone getting 19 boards, but I may be wrong I will have to watch it over and count.
Lazeek Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Actually Anderson had 10 points and 17 rebounds!!!
whsalum Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Got them from Mikes post game wrap up.The young man had a double/double.The reason I said it was emotion was Turner had 6, Sutherland-6 and Gus-9.That's not a typical night for those 3.
Lazeek Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 AAW told me that he had 17.....either way that is great and impressive. If anything it is comforting that HJ won the game with Turner, Gus and Grey only having a total of 21 points. And Ricossa not playing. That tells me that some others stepped up.
DP#1FAN Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Sounds like it was a great game. I did not think it would be that close. EC came to play ball and make a statement about 2A basketball. Best of luck to both teams this season.

AggiesAreWe Posted December 16, 2009 Author Report Posted December 16, 2009 HJ was there for the taking last night. They definitely were off a bit without Riccosa and coming off that heated battle with Kountze.EC played well, particularly in the first half. They managed HJ's press well and took good shots. They also played good defense limiting the Hawks to just one shot most of the time in the first half. The difference in the game was the start of the second half when HJ opened it with a 7-0 run in the first 2 minutes of the 3rd to extend their 3 point halftime lead to 10, 34-24. The Hawks managed to get the lead to 13, at 47-34, but give EC credit for making a run to close the game. The Bucs outscored the Hawks 18-9 in the last 5 minutes of the game, actually trimming the lead to 2 on two different occasions and had a chance to tie it with 2 freethrows but could not convert them. HJ hit 7-8 freethrows down the stretch to preserve the victory.
alice Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 without a doubt the loss of Ricossa played a role in the closeness of the game. Not having the big man,not only under the basket but while moving the ball down court made a change in the game. Congrats to the Bucs though for playing a solid defensive game. I feel the Bucs will continue to improve as the season progress's and will be a strong contender in district. For all those naysayers, just remember EC has had only 5 practices since the whole team was playing footbal til after Thanksgiving.
FanintheStands Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Ricossa's absence will provide a great opportunity for the coaches to develop some talent for the stretch run. You saw that last night with Will Anderson stepping up and getting 17 rebounds. He, Sean P., and Nobles will get some valuable experience that can only help the Hawks during the stretch run.

True Blue Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Does anyone have any stats on the EC players in this Game. I konw that #3 had 16 and #33 had 12 but cant find out anything else? Who ever keeps stats for them never gets them right.
