Guest coachacola Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009
3 FCS schools??That's it.
That's what I was thinking too when I saw their schedule. And of those 3 FCS schools, both LU and Georgia State have new programs. They went undefeated and had real good attendance this year with an exhibition schedule so they must figure they'll repeat that with a little harder schedule.
TexasTerror Posted December 16, 2009 Author Report Posted December 16, 2009 The reasoning is that USA is not a classified program in 2010. You guys are. From my understanding, playing USA does not count as a Div I game (for playoff purposes), so with that being said, they are not going to get too many FCS teams interested in them. In fact, Lamar is already not in consideration for the playoffs in year one due to the inability to get seven Div I wins, which is pretty much a pre-req to get in.USA is doing this so they do not have to start APR calculations and so they can build up a full roster when they first hit the field in 2011.
becktobigs Posted December 16, 2009 Report Posted December 16, 2009 Actually 4 FCS schools--Cal-Davis stepped up several years ago. 4 FCS - 2 start-up programs4 D2 - includes Missouri S & T (formally Mo.-Rolla) which has become an independent after de-emphasizing sports--were in conference with NW Missouri, the recently national champs. USA does get to finish the year with a team called the Boll Weevils.2 NAIA no eleventh game.Overall, much tougher than the Junior College schedule played this year.

Lamar could have done the same thing, but turned down one, if not two interested parties. In 2011, question their schedule if it stinks. That's their first year, that's their comparison to Lamar's 2010. South Alabama is doing this an unusual way, but you can't complain. They are going to be REAL competitive from the start with how they will have three, if not four classes in the fold by 2011.
