5-foot-10 and 210-pound running back Derrick Hall from Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, Texas, a former Top 100 high school prospect, confirmed this morning that he had signed with the University of Tulsa. The 3-star prospect explained his choice and described what Tulsa fans can expect from him next fall.

"Yes, I'm a Golden Hurricane," Hall told InsideTulsaSports.com this morning.

Hall racked up offers from Ole Miss, Baylor, Hawaii, Arizona State and Arkansas, but recently narrowed his choices to Tulsa and hometown Lamar before ultimately deciding on the Hurricane.

"It just fit my style of play," Hall said of Tulsa. "I know I can help this team win football games."

In 11 games as a sophomore at Navarro this season, Hall rushed 114 times for 1,011 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also caught 13 passes for 292 yards and four more scores.

As part of the 2008 high school recruiting class, Hall was a 4-star prospect at Beaumont (Texas) Central. He was rated by Rivals.com as the No. 93 overall prospect nationally and the No. 14 prospect in the state of Texas. He was also labeled the 9th-best athlete in the country.

Much of Hall's talent revolves around his tremendous speed, which is the first thing he mentioned when asked about his strengths.

"My 4.3 speed, and my ability to catch the ball out of the backfield," he concluded. "I can be a homerun threat every time I touch the ball. You just have to keep watching me.

"There's no telling when I'm going to pop one."

Hall is the third junior college player to sign with Tulsa during the midyear signing period that began on Wednesday. He joins Navarro teammate Milton Howell and Jones County defensive end Tyrunn Walker.
