OC teams sweep at BC Classic

BRIDGE CITY — Bridge City lit it up.

West Orange-Stark clamped down.

Vidor pulled the “upset” of the day.

That’s how the Bridge City Holiday Classic went after Day One at Cardinal Gym Monday.

Bridge City scored a total of 166 points in its two wins while WO-S held its two opponents to just 82 total points.

Meanwhile, Vidor downed District 20-4A rival Port Neches-Groves in a nailbiter.

Vidor (10-8) found itself down 36-27 against the Indians (10-3) to start the fourth period but went on a 10-0 run to grab a 37-36 lead and the Pirates were able to hang on for the victory.

Jacob Williamson led the Pirates with 15 points and had six rebounds. Gunner Hansen poured in 11 points and grabbed five boards while Danny Riddick was strong inside as he tallied 10 points and snagged seven rebounds.

The Indians, who managed just four points in the fourth period, were led by Scott Pellegrin and Brennan Doty, who scored 11 points apiece while Spencer DeRon had 10 points.

Vidor outrebounded the larger Indians 28-19. The Pirates committed 17 turnovers while PN-G had 16. Vidor was 5-of-11 from the free-throw line while PN-G was 2-of-5.

The host Cardinals (8-9) hammered Jasper 78-58 and throttled Beaumont Legacy Christian 88-56.

In the win over Jasper (4-8), the Cardinals were red-hot, roaring out to a 46-17 halftime edge and never looked back.

Nate McAnelly led the Cardinals with a big double-double with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Tanner Girouard pumped in 23 points and snagged eight boards. Point guard Zach Heinze had 10 points and six rebounds while William Veillon had eight points and seven boards.

Camoralis Kellum led the Bulldogs with 11 points while Scott Middleton and Cedric McGill tallied 10 points apiece.

The Cardinals outrebounded the Bulldogs 43-39. Bridge City had 13 turnovers while Jasper had 11. The Cardinals went 16-of-28 from the free-throw line while Jasper was just 1-of-9.

The Cardinals easily cruised past Legacy Christian (1-14) in the first game of the day.

McAnelly led the way with 28 points and Johnathan Peterson poured in 20. Girouard contributed 16 points and Veillon added 10.

Darreon Titus led the Warriors with 21 points while Johnathan Cregor contributed 14.

The Cardinals exploded away from a 48-37 halftime edge with a 24-2 spurt in the third period.

WO-S put the clamps (10-5) on Jasper early and often in rolling to a 58-32 win.

The Mustangs bolted out to a 17-2 lead st the end of the first period and led 26-7 at intermission.

Guard Kendrick Budwine led the very balanced Mustangs with 13 points.

Anthony Noble had nine points and Jarvis Jones added seven while JaKeenan Cotton, D’Andrus Brooks-Gentry and Darius Davis all tallied six points apiece.

The Mustangs forced the Bulldogs into 20 turnovers while only committing 10 themselves. Both squads had 37 rebounds.

WO-S was 2-of-8 from the free-throw line while Jasper was 8-of-16.

DeRez Thompson led Jasper with 11 points.

Cotton and Devon Villery led the Mustangs with six rebounds apiece while Jones, Davis and Justin Francis all had five.

Scott Middleton had eight boards for the Bulldogs.

The Mustangs capped the day by thrashing Legacy Christian 88-50.

WO-S opened the contest with a 20-8 spurt.

Davis had a nice double-double inside for the Mustangs, tallying 17 points while yanking down 11 rebounds.

Anthony Noble contributed 14 points and six boards. Budwine chimed in with 16 points while Cotton had 11 points and five rebounds.

Villery, Francis and DaColby Teate all added five boards for the Mustangs.

Cregor paced the Warrior attack with 18 points and six rebounds while Titus had 14 points and five boards.

The Mustangs outrebounded the Warriors by a whopping 49-19 margin.

WO-S had 21 turnovers while the Warriors had 19. The Mustangs went 6-of-9 from the foul line while Legacy was 5-of-6.

Games today at the tourney include Jasper vs. Vidor (9:30 a.m.); WO-S vs. PN-G (11 a.m.); Legacy Christian vs. Jasper (12:30 p.m.); Vidor vs. Bridge City (2 p.m.); and PN-G vs. Legacy Christian (3:30 p.m.)

Games Wednesday include Bridge City vs. WO-S (9:30 a.m.); Vidor vs. Legacy Christian (11 a.m.); Jasper vs. PN-G (12:30 p.m.); WO-S vs. Vidor (2 p.m.); and PN-G vs. Bridge City (3:30 p.m.)
