LamarStatesports Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 The Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team returned to action at home Monday and started the new year with a 79-69 non-conference win over Delgado Community College.The win avenged the outcome of Lamar State’s last game, a 15-point loss to Delgado on Dec. 12 in New Orleans. It also stopped Lamar State’s four-game losing streak and moved the Seahawks’ season record to 8-5.Lamar State was missing two players tonight – freshman guard Nick Walters, who was out of action with pneumonia, and freshman forward and leading scorer Leviante Davis, who was dismissed from the team Monday morning by head coach Matt Cross for “disciplinary reasons.â€Delgado moved out to a 13-point lead early in the game as the Seahawks did not look sharp coming back from the holiday break and did not score in the first three minitues of the contest.The Dolphins led through the six-minute mark of the first half, when the Seahawks were able to take the lead and hold on to a three-point edge, 33-30, at halftime.The second half belonged to the Seahawks, who led by as many as 15 points with nine minutes left in the contest.Four Seahawks scored in double figures, led by sophomore guard Kavon Rose with a season-high 27 points. Freshman guards Von Jones and Keenan Coleman had 17 and 16 points, respectively. Freshman forward Roman Vaughn contributed 11 points.Lamar State returns to Region XIV play Jan. 6, when the Jacksonville College Jaguars come to Port Arthur for a 7 p.m. game in the Carl Parker Center.
