*SILSBEE @ SPURGER BROADCAST, SILSBEE WINS 84-48!!!*

Recommended Posts

I don't want to hear anyone say that the Silsbee/ Spurger game was going to be competitive and also a good game for Silsbee to schedule........this is no different than HJ playing Legacy or Kountze playing San Augustine!!!  This was a blowout before the tip off!!!!

Nobody has made that claim.

BTW, San Augustine is 2A, just like Kountze. San Augustine may win their district. it will be between them and Woodville.

Gotta disagree with ya on this one Lazeek.I knew Silsbee would win this one but Spurger and Legacy aren't even close to being the same caliber team this season.I think this game was more beneficial to the Pirates than the Tigers. They won't face anyone close to this the rest of the year.

Never said that Legacy could compete with Spurger............I am just saying that it is a blowout on the schedule for both teams.......Yes, Spurger is a good 1A team and state ranked but that is besides the point.......Nobody and I mean nobody thought this would be a game!!!!

I agree whsalum, the comparison of Spurger and Legacy was a bad one. Spurger is 10 times better than Legacy.

Spurger is 13-4 on the season and has beaten a few good teams this year. Spurger will win their district.

I don't think I saw anyone state that this would be a close game, good game or whatever you want to call it. Spurger knew what they were getting, so did Silsbee. Coach Isaacs asked Travis to play his team when they came down to participate in the Silsbee summer league tourney. Travis told him yes.

Spurger was outmanned, no big secret. Most folks knew this would get a little lopsided.

I just not really understanding what your real point is LAZEEK.

wshalum, thanks for the kind words about the broadcast, appreciate it.

LAZEEK, I just call it like I see it. ;) ;D

I am just saying that people on here question when a team plays a inferior team..........Silsbee played an inferior team tonight.........don't try to read between the lines.......there is nothing there!!!!!  I am sure that Spurger would beat Legacy.....I was only making the comparison in that Silsbee knew that they would blow out Spurger just as HJ knows that they would blow out Legacy and just as Kountze knows that they would blow out SA............everyone plays a few cupcake games.........some people just make a big deal about it!!!!!

[/quote]Knowing coach Isaacs as I do he got what he needed out of this game.He asked for this game
so he can see how his boys react to beeing pushed over their limit.Me personally I would have liked
spurger to have stayed a little closer but silsbee is that good.
I would like to think travis for taking a game with spurger knowing it would help the pirates more
than it would his club. ;D

Scoring for both teams:

Silsbee

Pheal Hill   30 ( 3-5 from 3 point land, WOW!!!!!)
Prentice Lane  23
Kendrick Jones  8  ( 16 rebounds, 4 blockshots)
Avory Thomas  7  ( 10 boards, 5 block shots)
Xavior Harris   4
Ronald Barrett  4
Waylon Lockett 4
Leroy Simmons   2
Kelton Gaines    2  ( Kelton did not play after 1st quarter due to slight injury)

Spurger

George Whittaker    16
Daniel Blankenship   14 ( 12 in first half)
Chase McGallion       9
Jarron Odom           5
Shain Rawls           2
Luke McLeod         2

Score by quarters

                             1        2          3         4      tot
Silsbee                    21      21        21        21       84
Spurger                   12      11         10       15       48

Silsbee was 13-20 from the free throw line, 65%. Silsbee actually hit 12 of their first 13 shots from the charity stripe, unheard of for the Tigers! They then promptly missed 6 of their last 7 to comeback to reality. Spurger was very bad at the line, going 8 for 22, 36%. The Pirates started out 2 for 12, but then made 6 of their last 10.

Silsbee won the rebounding battle, 41-30, led by Jones' 16 boards.

Silsbee also had 12 block shots as a team, with Jones getting 4 and Thomas with 5.

The biggest story of this game was the Tigers' Pheal Hill hitting 3 three pointers.  He was 3/5, with these 5 attempts his first 3 point shot attempts of the season. Hill nailed the first 3 three pointers that he shot. I was speechless!! Silsbee was only 4 for 11 from 3 point land, 36%, Spurger was 4 for 16, 25%.

A good win for the Tigers who was still without the services of starting forward D.C. Stallworth. He is still nursing an ankle sprain. Silsbee should be at full strength for their district opener against WOS Friday night.

This game was good for Spurger as they will not see another team this good the rest of the season. The Pirates also had a player out in Hutto but he should be back by the middle of district.

All in all, a good game for both teams for the first time that these two teams have played each other in school history. I very much enjoyed doing the broadcast from Spurger, was fun. I always get taken care of up there thanks to Court Side. ;D

    • Either way,one game lead in the series. I rely to much on word of mouth
    • West Orange Stark has been a powerhouse since I csn remember. At some point, your bound to fall off to some degree. Alabama has 3 or 4 loses this season. Who would have thought? Has Orange lost kids to LCM or even Orangefield?
    • Interesting matchup this Friday. Both teams have very good offensive and defensive lines, which will make this game interesting. Having watched Texas High all season, they have a wide open offense with very good skill players. If you look at their stats they run the ball 57% of the time and pass 43% of the time. Personally, that is a bit deceiving, as most of their games have seen reserves running the ball in the 4th quarter. I would estimate the primary offense is 50/50. Through 12 games they have run for 3,224 yds (48tds) and passed for 2,894 yds (32 yds). Potter, the Tiger QB, has been very efficient with a 69% completion rate and 1 interception (which came from a tipped pass). The passing is distributed primarily to 4 receivers…. Ball (865), Wrightner (811), Montgomery (532), & Pilgreen (392). The rushing comes from 3 running backs … Johnson (1,432), Ball (768) & Moore (716).  The Tiger defense is solid and very quick.    Hope #15 is healthy enough to play. He is a test for any defense. I was concerned about the Nederland RB, but felt Texas High did a good job containing him. I wish this game was in the afternoon, as Nachitoches is having their Festival of Lights and their will not be any rooms in the inns and restaurants will be full so plan accordingly. PNG are state champions until someone knocks them off, so I extend the Indians the respect they deserve. Pulling for the Tigers.
    • The baseball coach has a ton of experience at high school and college level and hasn’t done anything for I think around 7 years now,it’s just something that the higher ups live with. And there has been talent come through that he hasn’t done anything with!
    • If I had to point out one team that has impressed me the most; Barbers Hill
