KFDM COOP Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 LC-M swimmers make mark at Brazoswood meetTommy Mann, Jr.The Orange LeaderLAKE JACKSON, Texas — With only one meet left before the district contest, LC-M swimmers are hitting their stride.The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Battlin’ Bears swim team traveled to Lake Jackson this past Saturday to compete in a swim meet at Brazoswood High School against larger teams from El Campo, Texas City, Angleton, Friendswood, Brazosport, Alief Hastings, Brazoswood and more.Cassey Brown, a junior at LC-M High School, led the way Saturday at the Brazoswood swim meet by scoring all 20 points for the team.Brown’s top showing was fifth place finish in the Girls 100 Yard Backstroke in a time 1:12.96, which earned the team 14 points. Not only did she improve her best time by .30 seconds, she also broke her own LC-M High School record.Brown claimed 11th place, and an additional six points for the team, with a time of 6:19.53 in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle.According to team sponsor Bonnie Dorman, swimmer Chasity Chapman improved her personal best time in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle despite having very little rest between her two races on Saturday.Chapman, a sophomore at LC-M High School, finished 30th in the freestyle race in a time of 1:26.64, an improvement of 2.79 seconds on her personal record.Chapman also collected a 21st place finish in the Girls 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:42.33.The team will travel to Manvel High School on Jan. 23 for the annual Alvin-Manvel Classic. The District 20-4A swim meet will be held in Nederland the next week.
