Lamar Offensive Coordinator Leaving For Texas Tech

Before coaching his first football game at Lamar University offensive coordinator Tommy Mainord has decided to take a job at Texas Tech. Head coach Ray Woodard confirmed this with Fox 4 this afternoon, saying he'll immediately start a search for his replacement. Mainard's dad Carlos was a safeties coach at Texas Tech for six years before retiring on Wednesday.

It says his dad retired. I heard that Tuberville wasn't planning on hiring his own staff, so I'm thinking Carlos Mainord asked Tuberville to hire his son.  I bet it's a nice raise from the $60K or so he was making at LU.

Retired, but either way, whenever Woodard's hiring guys that get jobs at BCS schools and recruiting players that leave to go to BCS schools like Miami (former TE Chase Ford), that has to mean he is doing something right. At least he doesn't have guys that are transferring to Divison III schools because they can't play at this level, or not yet at least.

I heard that also but he fired DC Ruffin McNeil and got a new OC as well. Not sure if the original OC left because of the Leach situation, but he's retained a couple assistants and let go a few also.

It just shows we have a head coach that knows what he's doing.. That's all we're getting at. Congrats to Coach Mainord for getting the job of a life time.

After Tubberville brought on a new DC, there was no place for Ruffin - he likely wasn't going to take a demotion.  There was no offensive coordinator.  Leach was the offensive coordinator.  For the Alamo Bowl, Lincoln Riley assumed those duties, but he was the WRs coach.

I still take this as a positive, somehow. Hopefully LU can find another good one in their next offensive coordinator.
