Turnovers doom OF against HJ; Hawks win, 54-40

Gabriel Pruett
The Orange Leader

ORANGEFIELD — A team cannot expect to beat the No. 4 Hardin-Jefferson Hawks with 22 turnovers on the board.

The Hawks used the extra possessions to down the Orangefield Bobcats 54-40 at Bobcats Gym Tuesday night.

Grayson Sutherland led a balanced Hardin-Jefferson (25-2, 2-0) attack with 17 points, 13 coming in the second half.

The Hawks were able to take a 13-8 deficit after the first quarter into a 26-20 lead at half-time as the Bobcats (14-11, 1-1) went ice cold on offense.

Orangefield finished the first quarter on a 7-0 run only to see Hardin-Jefferson open the second on a 6-0 run to take a 14-13 lead.

Zach Hayes, who finished with nine points and 16 rebounds, hit a jumper to end the Hawks run.

Hardin-Jefferson was far from down in the quarter as the Hawks then went on another six point run to stretch the lead to 20-15.

The Hawks outscored the Bobcats 18-7 in the pivotal second quarter.

Sutherland then got hot in the third as Hardin-Jefferson started to pull away.

Sutherland drained a three-pointer moments after Bryden Smith hit one for Orangefield. Smith finished with eight points for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats fought back to get to within 35-29 before Sutherland hit another shot.

Sutherland and the Hawks were then helped out by the hometeam Bobcats.

Hardin-Jefferson led 37-30 with seconds on the clock and Sutherland put up a three-point attempt and was fouled by Aaron Riddick with less than a second left in the quarter.

Sutherland sank all three free throws to make it 40-30 heading into the fourth.

Hardin-Jefferson outscored Orangefield 14-10 in the game’s final quarter as Sutherland and Garrett Gustafson each have five points. Gustafson finished with seven points.

It was a stark contrast from the first period when the Bobcats played at a high level.

Hayes sank a three-pointer to put Orangefield up 9-8 and Riddick followed with a pair of free throws.

Christian Holland, who had four points, then hit a jumper to make it 13-8 Orangefield after the first period.

Derrick Evans put in seven points for the Bobcats while Riddick finished with four. Logan Moss grabbed four rebounds.

Jacoby Turner was held to eight points and nine rebounds while Philip Ricossa had seven points and nine rebounds.

Hardin-Jefferson out-rebounded Orangefield 31-30.

The Bobcats were 6-for-8 from the free throw line while the Hawks were 9-for-14.

Hardin-Jefferson only turned the ball over 13 times in the game.

The road does not get any easier for the Bobcats who travel to face the No. 6 Silsbee Tigers. The Hawks will be home to face Hamshire-Fannett.

Great write up Gabe....

My take on Ofield:

OF did a good job defensively holding the Hawks to 54 (edited from 56) points. Turner had 8 and Ricossa had 7 so no problems on the defensive end.

OF is a outside shooting team and they died by it tonight. Ricossa had 2 PFs in the 1st QTR and they never attacked him to get him in foul trouble.

OF shot 32% from the floor and finally started driving to the hole in the 3rd but they never did it consistently after that. Hayes had 16 boards, most on the defensive end. Ricossa cleaned up on the defensive end because OF never had anyone rebounding.

Anderson & Prudhomme did good jobs scoring in the 1st half.

Talent is there for OF...Looks like they are going to have to beat WO-S twice.

Well officiated game.

I am going to break down coops UNBIASED analysis of the HJ-OF Game.

First Paragraph.
First sentence is saying something positive about OF.  Second sentence a negative about HJ and positive about OF.

Second Paragraph
First sentence an excuse for OF.  Second sentence another excuse for OF.

Thir Paragraph
First sentence excuse for OF.  Second sentence positive for OF and a positive for HJ that was nulified by another excuse for OF.

Fourth paragraph
First sentence is the first time something good was said about HJ without it being followed by a negative comment or an excuse for OF.

And coop wonders why people think his bias is against HJ.  This says it all.  Just admit it coop and it would be better.

By reading your analysis this win for HJ had nothing to do with what HJ did and everything to do with what OF did not do!

y'all are reading too much into this.  the first sentence of his post was "my take on Ofield".  it would clearly stand to reason that his statements would be about orangefield.  if he'd said "my take on the game", i can see where you might be more justified in your response.

Can I have one day in peace? And thanks (edited for spelling) for posting just when you have negative things to say. Have a good one! Long live Gov. Jesse Ventura.

Edited to add this statement: I guess when Swag and Walter aren't around, you have to jump and instigate with someone. Admit it guys, you aren't giving any team a bad rap, are you?

Odd thread here. A few weeks ago, during the over-the-top Sutherland lovefest  ::), I posted something entirely factual, and it was immediately deleted, without explanation. Now, certain opinions are acceptable, but certain factual statements are not.

WRONG!!!  What you posted regarding Sutherland leaving EC was NOT FACTUAL!!!  And that is why it was deleted.  I spoke to Sutherland and several EC people on the matter.  I was told who you are and it is sad that you would make up something like that. PITIFUL!!

Just another lucky break for HJ :D
Well said, Dove. (and with much apparent forethought) Anytime a team wins by double digits on the opposing teams floor, it is very obviously just another lucky break.

Well, I thought it was better than saying how good yall are :P
Good?  How can you say that about HJ?  Remember, its only Lazeek, Karma, and me that think HJ is good and it is well documented on this board that our opinions do not count.  Additionally, if any of us offers something supporting HJ that makes sense, the post is simply deleted such as this one probably will  be, before you read it.  I do admire, however, your "another lucky break" for HJ.  I know that I will have to use that one a bunch on the 2013-2015 HF teams.

Lazeek who are you suppose to be bruh? Everytime somebody "tell it how it is" regarding Hawkettes or staff you get real paranoid and go out your way to delete their post before  members hear the truth. Then you immediate become the" K9" of the board and get on your next mission to try and figure out who the person is. Like for what? who's scared of you..ummm Nobody! Dude what's the point. I'm tired of hearing you say things like "We know who you are and its ashmed, or pitiful" Nobody here cares what you find out or how you really feel about it. You're to sensitive bruh. I can't wait till Silsbee spank yall so you can shut up. Then once the playoffs begin you won't be around much longer cuz Cleveland is gonna send you and the Hawkettes packing. You're making it real easy for us to dislike Hj. Far as Coop, he always tell it how it is. He's not gonna sugar coat anything. Do you Coop, and just do what I do, " I just Shake da Haters off, I mean, Da Hawkettes Off!! Lmao Lmao. I'm Baaaaaaccccckkkk!

Now I know some HJ fans are more sensative than others, but for the most part we just get on here and fight fire with fire. If that gets unda your skin, then u to sensative bruh. I havent seen hardly any Hawk fans get on here and run any other team down. All most do is get on here and give it back like it was received, it is u swaggetti that tries to tell everyone how bad we are. There are a few in every community that take it over the limit, I surely dont think everyone in KTZ acts like u.
