KFDM COOP Posted January 23, 2010 Report Posted January 23, 2010 David McNabbTheOldCoach.com Senior EditorGiddings coach Derek Fitzhenry is weighing whether to leave for Pasadena Dobie or stay and hope issues with certain Giddings school board members are resolved.Dobie officials are allowing Fitzhenry for time through the weekend to consider the options, according to Giddings Times and News sports editor Sloan Preuss. The Giddings paper is closely monitoring the situation but doesn't have a website to update.Fitzhenry has been a candidate in several openings around the state since the end of last season.Dobie is a Class 5A school but definitely falls into a "rebuilding" post even if the school district bumps Fitzhenry's pay well about $100,000. Dobie hasn't been to the state playoffs in five years. The last winning district record came in '05.While at Class 3A Giddings, Fitzhenry has had a strong playoff contender. His son Brock Fitzhenry was one of the state's top players in '07. Brock plays receiver at Texas.Derek Fitzhenry has another talented son with RB/WR Spencer, who is a top Class of 2012 college prospects.
Guest Coach or Die 67 Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Heard he took the job on Friday the 22nd. Got the school district fired up because they had thought they found the right man. Calls them back and declines on the following Monday. If this is true, Longhorn fans, be greatful. Because it would have been a big mistake.
Guest BobSeger Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Good Lord.. you got on The Old Coach, 3adl.com and now setxsports saying the same dang thing. Who gives a crap! It is over and done with.
KFDM COOP Posted January 31, 2010 Author Report Posted January 31, 2010 :DGiddings coach Derek Fitzhenry spent the weekend trying to decide whether he'd leave the Class 3A school for a rebuilding job at Class 5A Pasadena dobie outside Houston. It was a story that had the Central Texas town on edge last week as reported on theoldcoach.com.Fitzhenry, 43, told the Austin American-Statesman on Monday afternoon he'd decided to stay."I needed to talk to my family about the move and talk to some people back in Giddings," Fitzhenry said. "A lot of people came to me and wanted me to stay. You get close to these people. A lot of it was a family decision but being in Giddings, we enjoy it."Giddings has a 67-19 in the last seven years under Fitzhenry as his son Brock Fitzhenry helped turned the program into a state title contender. Brock signed with Texas two years ago. Spencer Fitzhenry is a highly regarded 2011 WR/DB prospect.Fitzhenry has two years left on a three-year contract and is eligible for an extension in March.
KFDM COOP Posted January 31, 2010 Author Report Posted January 31, 2010 Word is Fitz didn't even tell Pasadena, they were unhappy and angry.
Guest Coach or Die 67 Posted February 1, 2010 Report Posted February 1, 2010 I appreciate the advice Seger.
