Guest ~old_wildcat~ Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010
I agree with your premise but I'm actually not referring to advantage/disadvantage in a winning/losing context. And, you are right about only 11 players being on the field at a time but, my point is, that even with 11 players on the field, Vidor will still have 50 or 60 (if not more) players on the sideline (fresh players) while Kirbvyille will have barely enough to fill the bench. Kirbvyille will play both ways while Vidor will consistently rotate fresh players from the bench. There may only be 11 at a time on the field but for KV alot of those 11 will be the same 11 who started the game while Vidor will rotate at will. Experience and talent can only go so far. I don't care if Vidor plays nothing but freshman/sophomores in the second half, they will still be able to dominate Kville due to the simple fact that they can keep fresh legs on the field. I just don't want to see a group of kids put into a situation that could potentially not only cause them physical harm but also ruin the mental motivation that has made KV the successful program that it now is. It just seems too risky to me.
I need "SNOOKS" to interpet what you just wrote...Up here in the piney woods,We always had players playing both ways..We just play hard nosed slobber knocking football,We don't worry about how many players you got on the sidelines,( they shore ain't as good as the ones they started,or they'd be out there, and it looks like to me ,each new one they send in is progressively worse than the last one). And you will not dominate Kirbyville on any side of the ball..don't worry about Kirbyville and physical harm ..they give more of that than they recieve...JMO
AggiesAreWe Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 In regards to Vidor's and WOS's enrollment, Vidor turned in 1465 and WOS 690 for this year's realignment. So it's safe to say that Vidor has twice the enrollment as WOS and almost 4 times that of Kirbyville.

Guest LR1969 Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Look...This is truly not about me trying to discredit KV or take away from their ability on the football field. I know they play tough-nosed football. It's truly not about who wins or loses this game. It's not about pride or tradition or anything else for that matter. So, please don't take it that way. I just don't want to see a group of kids put through something just because "things are different up here in the Piney Woods." I know all about Piney Woods football. I lived in Kirbyville myself for a few years and I spent just about every summer up there as a kid. I also played for the Wildcats myself in junior high so I understand the desire to relive the "little engine that could" story. But, this is not Newton and it's not Jasper. It's a team that routinely fields a front line that is capable of doing serious harm to the much smaller front that KV will pit against them. I'll end the Vidor discussion with that. Play the game. Enjoy it. I hope KV pulls off a miracle upset because, as a writer, it would make a great story. On the other hand, it would be terrible to have to write a story about a kid with a great deal of talent who had that talent destroyed because someone, somewhere felt they had something to prove at the expense of that kid. Call me a whiner, over-protective or whatever but, if my son played for the Wildcats, I would definitely question this decision (not just Vidor but the entire schedule) by a "good" coach and probably confront him with it (not in an aggressive manner but simply because, for the sake of the kids, I think the situation is worth discussing). Again, good luck to the KATS. I will be there when the ball leaves the tee and I will be there when the final second ticks off the clock. I hope it's a close, hard-fought game and I hope all goes well for both teams. One last point on the schedule...This is not just about playing Vidor...It's about playing what has to be one of the toughest schedules any team in the state will play this year all for what appears to be nothing more than ego. Coldspring will be a tough game. They beat WO-S last year as you may recall. I give KV 50/50 in that one. They will then play Newton. A tough opponent but I give them the edge there. They then go to Vidor and not only lose but come away bruised and hurting. They then face WO-S in a diminished capacity and lose. They then play Bridge City, a team that they should be able to beat if healthy but, as a result of an overly zealous schedule, they will probably be banged up and will lose to Bridge City to. They then travel to Wills Point, a playoff team from the year previous, and could easily lose that one as well. That puts them 1-5 or 2-4 going into district, not because they are a 1-5 team but because they "over-scheduled". Hope it doesn't happen but I think the odds of it going just as I predict are pretty good. On the other hand, I may be completely wrong and the KATS may surprise the world. That would be great. But, there's nothing wrong with asking the questions. We'll see!OLD-WILDCAT...Many of those bench-warmers at Vidor would be starting at KV so let's not belittle those players. It's a little harder to start when you have a larger pool of players to compete against. That's not a dig against KV or its players but it is a fact. Vidor has 250lb lineman who rarely get in the game. At KV, that player (because of his size) would be on the field, assuming he could at least tie his shoe and find the huddle.GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!! By the way, I heard Alabama may have an open date on their schedule. Maybe KV should play them too. Would be a great primer for district.

And btw dont worry about the schedule we picked yall need to focus on maybe playing a little bit better in district this year because all of southeasttexas knows yall by overrrated.
CatFan81 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Apparently LR1969 didn't see Pilot Points line. 250 would have been small on that team.
Speedkills Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 no joke there smallest starting lineman weighed 280 they were huge and actually with my predicted starting lineman this season none of them come under the 250 mark.
bone Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 well if Vidor dose not pass should be a close game. Vidor is not the team they were last year.
Tim Riggins Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Yep, lost the line and the running backs. Will be depending a lot on last year's JV players.

I can promise you Silsbee did not try to win that scrimmage. How can you consider a scrimmage a win when coaches are all over the place and sometimes in the way. As for Silsbee beating Kirbyville 11 times, it is a matter of record.
AggiesAreWe Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Actually, I was wrong on the alltime record between Silsbee and Kirbyville. Silsbee leads the series 16-2.As for that "scrimmage" last year. Both teams scored 1 td, that's how it finished.
