mfbarnes52 Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Some photos I thought you guys might enjoy:This is the 1944 Port Arthur team that shut down the heavily favored Highland Park with future star Doak Walker, to win the State title. This great defense kept the number 1 offense in the state to minus 16 yards of total offense on the day. Walker was a triple threat tailback, kicker and quarterback. The Yellow Jacket had Tommy Thrower, Ike Nuemann. PA won 20-7. PN-G bamatex Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Gordon LeBoeuf (pictured above) died recently. He still holds the all-time rushing record at PN-G with ~2,100 yds. Caleb Harmon is second with ~1,800.Looks like we had outstanding fan support back then, too.
mfbarnes52 Posted February 2, 2010 Author Report Posted February 2, 2010 Yeah I think the attendance was listed at 8900
Guest jhamilton Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Mark what you think about your new district?
mfbarnes52 Posted February 2, 2010 Author Report Posted February 2, 2010 Interesting, picked up a good team, Stratford, but Northbrook and Woods are lame ducks. We laid off Caney Creek (lame) and Huntsville and Willis. Basically everything east of I45 left. We still have are rivals Brenham and Magnolia to deal with, not too bad. Stratford coming down from 5A is pretty big, they are up in arms down there about it, it breaks up that big rivalry they've had going with Memorial for years. It toughens up our district somewhat. Man Lake Travis got a gift over there in 4A-25
katdaddy Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Those old pictures are great, keep em coming. That PA team looks like they dont have a guy over 200lbs.
OldSkool97 Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 In the second picture...there sure looks to be alot of people in attendance.
mfbarnes52 Posted February 2, 2010 Author Report Posted February 2, 2010 Attendance was said to be around 8900

The Bulldogs doubled the Owlrushing totals with 158 yds. It was revenge so to speak for the last second loss to Port Neches in the 1955 State Title Game.
