Guest GCMPats Posted February 2, 2010 Report Posted February 2, 2010 Barbers Hill coach has busy first day By Dave RogersThe Baytown Sun Published February 2, 2010 Ronnie Gage’s first day on the job as athletic director and head coach at Barbers Hill was a busy one.It began Monday morning at the Region IV Educational Service Center in Houston, where he joined 100 other schools in getting his school’s UIL assignment for the next two years.Barbers Hill will remain in District 19-4A, which is the same as it has been with the exception of Baytown Lee coming in and Kingwood Park going out.“It was a lot like home, it can get wild and crazy,†said Gage, who has been through the process many times as longtime coach at Lewisville. “But our non-district was pretty well set when we ended up in an eight-team league.â€Tentatively, Barbers Hill will play Santa Fe, Lumberton and Nederland the first three weeks of the season.Gage attended the first meeting of the reorganized 19-4A to set competitive game schedules for the next two school years. He said he is not yet at Barbers Hill full-time.“I’ve still got some back and forth to do, but I’m hoping in a little over a week, I’ll be here full-time,†he said.Gage said his first priority is getting acquainted.“I’m trying to get to know the staff and trying to get to know the kids,†he said. “That’s always tough for both parties. I want to watch the kids a little more and see what makes them tick and start adding my touch to it as we go.â€The new coach says he has some old coaching cohorts he’d like to bring to Barbers Hill.“I’d like to be able to bring some people. I don’t know how many,†he said. “I’ve got a couple of coordinators that have worked with me before. I’d like to get them down here and go from there.“There’s some good coaches here. We’re going to work through it from both sides.â€
