The Miners now sit tied for first in Conference USA play, with a 7-1 conference record, and an 18-5 overall, with wins over teams including the University of Oklahoma (sucks).

The Coogs jumped out early to a 14 point advantage midway through the 1st half, but the Miners D clamped down, and then the offense got in rythym, erasing the lead, and going up by 7 midway through the 2nd half, a lead that proved to be the game winner.

The two top teams meet Saturday for sole possession of first place.

UTEP is now 11-1 in Conference USA, defeating a scrappy Tulsa team that eroded UTEP's halftime lead of 17 to 7 before falling back and losing the game by a score of 78-70 in Tulsa.  The crowd had a couple of chances to get into the game, but those chances were stifled by a stingy Miner zone defense that denied the inside to Tulsa.

UTEP shows up in the ESPN USA Today College poll at # 25, #24 in both the CBS Sports and Parrish polls, and just 1 shy of the Top 25 in the AP poll, sitting at #26 with 86 points.

Hopefully, the Miners continue their winning ways, and make into the Big Dance!  They have two games left, Marshall and UAB, with the latter the bigger of the two, though the Thundering Herd is no walk in the park either.

With UTEP's win against Rice on Saturday, the clinched, at the very least, a share of the Conference USA regular season championship.

The UTEP Miners are now the outright C-USA champs, with an 80-76 win against the Marshall Thundering Herd.  Randy Culpepper was also the #3 highlight on ESPN Sportcenter's top plays.  With the win the Miners are sole Conference USA regular season champions.

The Miners overcame a 10 point deficit after the first half, outscoring UAB 30-18 in the second to grab a 2 point win at home to close out the regular season.  The Miners go into the Conference championship as the regular season Conference USa champs, with a record of 15-1.

UTEP played in the Conference USA quarterfinals, and beat the UCF (University of Central Florida) Golden Knights 76-54.  UTEP led throughout the whole game, but Rompza from UCF, really impressed me...by far the shortest guy on the court, he was everywhere...

Great win by the Coogs....based on the Miners showing in the regular season, they sould also be going to the dance, making C-USA a 2 bid conference...

Coleman is a great player, but the Coogs got some others to step up as well for a quality win...

Miners will make it, based on their #25 ranking.  Houston might have saved Tom Penders job, if he wants it.  Good luck to both
