OK guys the board has been way to quiet.I have finally recovered from AAW and Lazeek questioning my basketball knowledge on last weeks show so heres the question. Can Slisbee,HJ and Kountze advance to the drum at the rate they have been turning the ball over?Silsbee and HJ both turned it over tons in there showdown and Kountze had 38 against Anahuac and well over 20 at EC friday. We all know playoff basketball is a different animal.I don't think you get past the second round if you turn it over more than 18-20 times. What do yall think???

Well, Silsbee turned it over just 14 times against Bridge City last Friday night. ;D

BTW, when Silsbee went to the state tourney in 2008, they turned the ball over 20 or more times in three of their 5 playoff games. ;)

They only turned the ball over 16 times against Kennedale in the semi-finals.

I dont no about Sis. or HJ but the lack of a point guard will hurt Konutze. Bray is a great small farward but lack the ballskill to beat a good press. I have not seen a realy good pg this year from any team. I have not seen McGallion play fron Spur. this year but last year he was the strongest in the area that I saw. Who ever is the #1 seed could get the 3 Seed in the 1 round of the playoffs so I dont think turnovers will hurt that much but after that you have to take care of the ball on ever trip up the floor.  Not turning the ball over is the answer to winning any championship in any sport.

Well, I consider HJ one of the top teams in Region 3 and in the state. If Silsbee can turn it over 23 times against them and still win, then they can do it against other teams in the playoffs and still win.

Do I want or expect them to turn it over that many times? NO!! But the Silsbee/HJ game is as intense a game as any playoff game that either team will face. I just don't see a playoff game with another opponent being more intense than that unless you get to Austin.

I totally understand what you are saying about the turnovers. But to simply say that neither team can win in the playoffs while turning it over, I just don't agree with.

True Blue, I thought you knew basketball?  ::)

The #1 seeds out of districts in classes 3A and down get first round byes. Those teams could possibly face #2 seeds in the 2nd round, which would be their first playoff games. ;)

What concerned me in the HJ/Silsbee game was the type of turnovers. The crowd was intense but a lot of turnovers came on back door cuts and careless long court passes.I think Cleveland,Navasota and even Bullard will be hard to beat with that type turnover.Bullard had a PG that is going to be hard to pressure if they are still in the hunt.Kountze turned it over against EC without hardly any pressure. I think all 3 clubs have a great shot at the drum but I think after the second round they have to have less 20 turnovers to win.For last years Tigers Shannon was a great turnover neutralizer.

Unless you have a Ryan Donahoe or a Tramain Thomas, they could both beat it off the dribble. Not many can though.

I've seen almost every team around here except the 1a and Pam and I haven't seen anyone remotely close to them.

Guest speechless
# of turnovers is often dictated by the style of play of both teams

this is not like football where only a few occur each game

turnovers are part of the game of basketball, i don't think you can go on just turnovers but who converts the turnovers they cause

points per turnover is a big deal

20 turnovers is not a big deal if each team has 80-90 possessions

20 turnovers is a big deal if each team only has 50-60 possessions

100% agree.

Silsbee is playing great defense and I believe can overcome some turnovers.

[/quote] In Kountze def. they turned the ball over a lot when the game was out of hand, and trying to showboat a little ;)  dont know when they turned it over int the Ana. game but with the point spread prob. the same thing happen there.

If the Tigers continue to control the boards like they have then the number of turnovers may not matter.  Like has been said, I don't think it is the numbers but the points off turnovers that matter.  If the turnovers lead to easy fast break points, then there will be trouble.  However if they just lead to a change in possesion,  then controlling the boards should offset the turnovers.

Against Silsbee the HJ club had several turnovers on back door cuts right at the basket. These are normally sure buckets and are the kind that cost you a ballgame.I'll be supporting any of the local clubs that make it as well no-look so that may be 2 strikes against them.

I definately agree those aree costly and the Tigers do struggle scoring at times.  That is my worry more so than turnovers.  Yes I know turnovers are part of scoring troubles, but I am more concerned with the times we struggle shooting.  We score a lot of points off of offensive rebounds but we need a little more consistency outside to help our inside game.  With our advantage inside we just need to be able to keep teams from sagging so much on defense.

Turnovers are always in large number in up tempo games.  How many turnovers you have isn't near as important as the turnover differential and who converts off of turnovers better.

I have seen Kountze teams that would bounce the ball off the wall they passed the ball so vigorously and quickly down the court.  Tons of turnovers, but it seemed for everyone they threw away they picked off two.
