truthseeker Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Just curious about what you guys would say about a issue that a buddy and I were discussing the other night. He says it's alright to sign up for more than one tournament the same weekend. My thinking is you can't be in two places at the same time, so you sign up knowing you are going to back out on somebody. These ol' boys work hard to put together tournaments for our girls to be able to play ball. I say we oughta respect them enough to only register if we plan on showing up to play ball. What do you guys think?
Guest (13) Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 I think signing up for 2 is wrong. What happens to the teams that signed up for the one that "didn't make" and their weekend was ruined because a couple of these double dippers dropped out? Selfish in my opinion.
Guest screwball queen Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 We've been playing select ball for 9 years and have put on several tournaments as fund raisers. What a lot of coaches do is sign up for 2 tournaments, then they see which tournament has the best competition and they go with that one and drop the other they were signed up for. We have gone from have ing up to 8 teams in an age group to 4 the Thursday before the tournament started on Friday.
HillGuy Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Double dipping is not a good practice. TD's don't forget that. I was up front and honest with TD's to say that I was signed up somewhere else, but if it didn't make, I might call them at the last minute. What irritated me was TD's who would put you on the list of teams in if you just called to get info on their tourney. More than once I had to call and say "take us off your list!" (that was posted on eteamz).

truthseeker Posted February 10, 2010 Author Report Posted February 10, 2010 Kinda what I was thinking, but then I figgured maybe I was being too nice. :-\
vcaldwell Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 This practice has been around for a while but seems to be getting worse the past couple of years. It shows a lack of integrity by coaches. The best thing to do is for TD's to make sure the word gets out about teams that screw their event by double dipping and playing elsewhere leaving a tournament in jeopardy. There have been a few times over the years that I have not signed up a team because they have a bad reputation. There are plenty of places to report these teams. Unfortunately it is one of those which came first the chicken or the egg situations. Did teams start double dipping because TD's were waiting too long before canceling an event thus leaving teams with no place to play OR did TD's start having to wait until the last minute before telling teams their event didn't make because of the double dipping teams pulling out at the last minute. Tough to say. Maybe SETX needs to start a section for TD's to report teams. VTD has it as part of the team's record. The rub of the matter is that there is always a TD willing to take these teams because they want the money. Ultimately it hurts everyone.JMHO,Vic
