Guest coachacola Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 I was perusing the November TSUS board of regents minutes and found this information:
Upon motion of Regent Mitchell, seconded by Regent Amato, with all Regents voting aye, it was ordered that Lamar University be authorized to increase the project cost on the Cardinal Stadium Renovation by up to $2,500,000 above the current approved budget of $26,125,332. The increase will be funded by gifts and locally generated funds.
LU also received a $100,000 donation Richard and Cathy Price of Beaumont for the football program:
Upon motion of Chairman Blatchley, seconded by Regent Truncale, with all Regents voting aye, it was ordered that: a) The President of Lamar University is authorized to accept and publicly announce a gift of $100,000 to the University from Richard and Cathy Price of Beaumont, TX.b) In appreciation of this most generous gift to the University and the Lamar football program, its students, and the people of Texas, particularly Southeast Texas, the head coach’s office shall be named the Richard and Cathy Price Head Coach’s Office.
LU4LIFE Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 I guess there is no information on what they want to do to the stadium that will cost 2.5 million over original cost?
AJ25 Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 I've said it all along, there's going to be a big surprise on this stadium.. Just no one knows where.

That type of stuff. Or maybe an extra score board.

Rebel Yeller Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 I have no dog in this hunt as I am not a big Lamar fan, but I do know a little about construction and renovation. The additional money sounds like cost overruns that have exceded the contengency fund of the project. New construction is more precise in the bidding and contractors can be held to their bids except when it comes to change orders, but in remodeling you never know exactly what you are in for until you get into the project. I would venture a guess that some of the over runs would have to do with the structural soundness of the stands, but that is strickly a guess. You have to be sure that everything meets current codes that the orginal stadium never was built to meet. It all costs money.I am looking forward to having college football in SETX and will likely take in some Lamar games.
Lamar was still making changes to the blueprints up to the demolition of the old field house, well after they were approved to spend $26 million on the stadium. I would guess the final plans are more expensive than what they first planned.
