KFDM COOP Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Several SE Texas teams in diamond rankingsVan WadeThe Orange LeaderWith the Texas high school softball season cranking up next week and the baseball season starting the following week, several Southeast Texas teams have landed in state preseason polls.In the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association polls, three local squads are ranked, all in Class 3A.The Jasper Bulldogs are ranked No. 3 while the Orangefield Bobcats stand at No. 4 and defending District 21-3A champion Bridge City sits at No. 7. Giddings is the top-ranked team in Class 3A.Houston Bellaire drew the top ranking in Class 4A. The tradition-rich Brenham Cubs are ranked No. 1 in Class 4A. Bishop is No. 1 in Class 2A and Overton is tabbed No. 1 in Class 1A.In softball, five Southeast Texas teams nabbed rankings, three of them in Class 3A.The District 21-3A Bridge City Lady Cardinals are ranked No. 3 with District 22-3A powerhouses Splendora and Huffman ranked No. 5 and No. 9 respectively. Huffman knocked out Bridge City in the 3A Region III playoffs last season. Needville is ranked No. 1 in 3A with Celina coming in at No. 2.In Class 4A, New Braunfels Canyon is ranked No. 1 followed by defending District 20-4A champion Nederland at No. 2.In Class 1A, Grapeland is No. 1 with the Colmesneil Lady Bulldogs sitting at No. 2.Pearland drew the No. 1 ranking in Class 5A while Brock garnered Class 2A’s top spot.print this story
