Nacogdoches ISD officials announced Monday that a special school board meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday to announce the approval of a new Nacogdoches High School head football coach. The district has not released any information about the choice for coach, nor did they release finalists in the process.

However, according to valleycentral.com, Los Fresnos High School head football coach Scott Ford confirmed Monday that he is leaving the school to accept the head football coaching position at Nacogdoches.

Smoaky.com reported that "the former Marshall High School star was offered the job on Sunday and accepted on Monday, but some contract details were still being ironed out."

Ford was 57-13 in seven seasons over the Los Fresno Falcons, including three undefeated seasons, according to the Web site. Los Fresnos was 8-6 in the postseason under Ford and went three rounds deep in the playoffs, three straight times from 2006 to 2008. Ford took Los Fresnos to the playoffs in six of his seven seasons and went 7-4 this past season and lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Los Fresnos High School is located in Los Fresnos, which is south of Brownsville,

Ford played college football at Sam Houston State University and the University of North Texas.

The Nacogdoches job opened up last fall when Bill Harper announced his retirement in November, after five seasons as the head coach of the Dragons. The Dragons were 26-25 in five seasons under Harper, including a 3-7 finish in 2009, and one playoff appearance.

According to smoaky.com, Harper was the defensive coordinator at Marshall when Ford played for the Mavericks.
