Gordon Ball, a freshman forward for the Lamar State College-Port Arthur men’s basketball team, was named the Region XIV Player of the Week for Feb. 22-27.

Ball posted double-doubles in last week’s victories over Panola College and Lee College, while helping the Seahawks grab a first- round bye in this week’s Region XIV Tournament with a second-place finish in the South Zone.

Ball scored 14 points, including eight straight points late in the second half, and pulled down nine rebounds in Wednesday’s 105-102 overtime win over Panola.

On Saturday, he scored a career-high 17 points to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds, as the Seahawks knocked off Lee College 97-72.

The Region XIV Tournament begins Thursday with four games in the Louise Herrington Patriot Center at the University of Texas-Tyler.

Lamar State will play Saturday at 3 p.m. in the tournament quarter-finals against the winner of Thursday’s game between Trinity Valley Community College and Panola College.
