LamarStatesports Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 The Lamar State College-Port Arthur women’s softball team has had a tough time getting started this spring because of inclement weather. Their original season opener, a Feb. 4 doubleheader against Temple College, was scrubbed by bad weather, as was their trip to the Feb. 12-13 Cowtown Classic Tournament in Fort Worth. The Seahawks finally kicked off the season with a Feb. 13 home doubleheader split with Coastal Bend College, followed by Feb. 23 doubleheader losses at Louisiana State University-Eunice.This week’s planned trip to the Temple College Tournament also evaporated after several inches of snow fell in central Texas on Tuesday night. So, the Seahawks will take their 1-3 season record on the road Friday to play seven games in three days against teams from the East Zone of Region XIV in the conference Crossover Tournament.Lamar State opens Friday at 2 p.m. against 2009 conference runner-up Paris Junior College, which was ranked just outside the Top 20 of Division I junior colleges in the nation in the NJCAA’s 2010 pre-season poll. The Seahawks close Friday’s action at 6 p.m. against Texarkana College.Lamar State’s Saturday games are with Trinity Valley Community College (11 a.m.), Bossier Parish Community College (3 p.m.) and Lon Morris College (7 p.m.)Sunday games are Navarro College (11 a.m.) and Northeast Texas College (3 p.m.).The results from the crossover tournament count in each team’s overall record but do not count in the conference standings.Lamar State begins its conference games Wednesday, March 10, with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at San Jacinto College in Pasadena. The Seahawks’ next home games will be March 24 against Alvin Community College.
