I love how some people continue to dog Gilligan and the baseball program even after someone posts FACTS about them having played one of the tougher schedules in the conference and being the highest ranked team thus far in the conference.

RPI doesn't mean much this early in the season.  It does matter at the end of the season for tournament seeding or if LU needs an at-large bid just to get to the NCAA playoffs.  The baseball team hasn't been to the playoffs since 2003 so while Gilligan has done a lot of great things for Lamar, you would think he'd schedule tough teams so they'd be ready for conference play.  Upsets do occur so you can't just count on the automatic bid to get in.

Also, attendance is important, and nothing hurts attendance more (besides losing) is playing against no-name teams.  It just seems to make the most sense to schedule tough teams.  I know a lot of schools won't come to Beaumont, but I bet Gilligan could schedule better than he does now.

Hopefully the $5 million or so in upgrades to Vincent-Beck will happen soon.  That should help in attracting good teams if Gilligan wants them in Beaumont.
