KFDM COOP Posted March 10, 2010 Report Posted March 10, 2010 Nederland boys 5, Beaumont Central 1 NEDERLAND -- Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Mullins stepped up in a big way and Nederland moved onto the verge of a 38-4A boys co-championship by beating Central 5-1 Tuesday at Bulldog Stadium. The Bulldogs (18-2-1 and 12-1) can secure a 38-4A share of boys title with cross-town rival Port Neches-Groves if they can win Friday night at Little Cypress-Mauriceville. Coach Jason Butler's Dogs will visit Bear Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. "I thought we really had good play from our defense tonight," Butler said. Mullins drew the start as Nederland's keeper on Tuesday. Brent Salenga, Jordan Wagner and Jake Kemp produced first-half goals as Nederland claimed a 3-0 halftime edge. Chaz Page and Hector Garcia added second-half goals. Coach Tony Cox's playoff-bound Beaumonters finally cracked the scoreboard with 1:25 to play after falling behind 5-0. The officials handed out three red cards to Central during the game.
