Mustangs storm to Kirbyville title

Leader Sports The Orange Leader

KIRBYVILLE — The West Orange-Stark Mustangs went perfect in the Kirbyville Tournament and capped it off by defeating District 21-3A rival Hamshire-Fannett 7-1 in the championship game Saturday.

WO-S (8-4) got seven innings of quality work on the mound by Justin Sparoow. Sparrow gave up one unearned run in allowing just four hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Sparrow was also 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs while also driving in a run. Zane Anderson went 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI.

Clayton Gearhart was 2-for-3. Taylor Turley was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI and Jake Klinkhammer was 1-for-3.

The Mustangs will play host to the Kirbyville Wildcats Monday.

There is a ton of talent on this team, but that is true for the other teams in this district as well. It will be a fun district to watch, should be some good match-ups. Pitching rotation once district starts may determine 3rd place in this district.

Whatever happens in district will take care of itself. Regardless we are miles ahead of where we were just a few years ago.

I see the mustang playing more difficult team early on is going to help in district...... I think it showed this weekend that teams playing weaker teams in the preseason are not doing to well against quality teams..... I see 21-3A going down to the wire, with BC, WOS, and OF taking the three spots.  Then again you can never count out the scrappy squad from HF, should be fun to watch.
