The Lamar State College-Port Arthur women’s softball team will travel to Beeville on Friday for a 1 p.m. conference doubleheader with Coastal Bend College.

Lamar State dropped to 1-14 overall and 0-4 in Region XIV action Wednesday, with 9-1 and 11-1 losses at Blinn College, last year’s Region XIV champion and currently the No. 4 Division I junior college team in the nation.

Lamar State head coach Vance Edwards said his team needs to improve their focus.

“The teams we’ve played so far were not better than us. We are beating ourselves with errors, both mental and physical,” Edwards said. “When everyone is focused on their jobs and have their heads in the game, we can defeat any team we’ve faced so far this year.”

Coastal Bend’s softball program began in 2009 and joined Region XIV this season.

The Seahawks split a Feb. 13 doubleheader with the Lady Cougars, 8-0 and 9-10.

Lamar State will be home at Marti Field on Wednesday, March 24 for a 1 p.m. conference doubleheader with Alvin Community College.
