1st-inning woes bury Eagles

KINGWOOD – Kingwood Park scored seven first-inning runs and beat Barbers Hill 8-6 in District 19-4A baseball Tuesday.

It was the first loss of the season for Eagle pitcher Cole Young, 3-1, and left Barbers Hill 1-2 in district, 9-7 for the season.

Both teams had double-digit hits with the Panthers picking up 12 and Barbers Hill 11. Carson Asbury pitched the final five innings for the Eagles and allowed just one run. Barbers Hill scored its final five runs in the seventh inning.

Daniel Mitchell, Ethan Jeffcoat, Tyler Lyday and Brian Meyer all had two hits each for Barbers Hill, with Jeffcoat and Lyday each knocking in two runs and Mitchell, Lyday and Meyer doubling.

Barbers Hill hosts Goose Creek Memorial Friday night.

Keys pitched for K-Park and someone else but not sure of the second pitchers name. Keys pitched through the 6th.

Great job by BH mounting a comeback late in the game.. just came up short..
