KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Astros are closer to settling on a 25-man roster, and J.R. Towles has won the catcher's race.

The Astros made nine roster moves this morning, optioning righthander Wilton Lopez and infielder Edwin Maysonet and reassigning top prospect Jason Castro to minor league camp.

The move means the Astros have settled on Towles and Humberto Quintero for catching duties. Manager Brad Mills declined to annoint an everyday catcher.

“We have two catchers and that's where we're at,” Mills said.

Also reassigned but remaining in camp were righthanders Casey Daigle, Gary Majewski, lefthande Gustavo Chacin, infielders Drew Meyer and Chris Shelton and catcher Kevin Cash.

Lopez and Maysonet are on the Astros' 40-man roster. The rest were non-roster invitees.

The moves bring the Astros' spring roster down to 29 players, four over the limit. The Astros have until Sunday to be roster compliant.
