Torre made the announcement at a postseason press conference at Yankee Stadium, saying he had been told by owner Georege Steinbrenner he would be brought back. Torre's job was said to be in jeopardy after the Yankees were beaten in the American League Divisional Series by the Detroit Tigers -- the second straight year that the Yankees were ousted in the first round.
