What other schools are doing that we are not

Recommended Posts

Found this document on the ULM website, it is there guiding document that maps out what they want to achieve and how they plan to do it.

I think if you take the time to read through some of it you will be very impressed.
I'm a business person, and a former business student, I love this sort of thing. And I think (know) that this is exactly what is lacking at Lamar, and clear, organized, and achievable system that sets out the programs goals and a way to achieve them.

How is this any sort of a guiding document? Its a facilities report. Not commissioned by the Athletics Department.

Lamar Athletics has no guiding principles, no direction, and no plan. and consequently is languishing. This is all due to a lack of effective leadership.

Good things have happened, but it has been the result of good work (or luck) of the individual coaches.

And it's probably no coincidence that ULM leaves the Southland for the Sun Belt while Lamar leaves Sun Belt for the Southland.

I don't think the 'important' people at Lamar realize how close they are to being at the same national level as these others schools.. Either that or they don't care. Let's face it, other than the enginerring and nursing programs this isn't a great educational school. Basically anyone will be accepted. Either they make the place hard to get into and turn it into a fine academic university, or they turn the focus to sports and leave the education as is. Baseball program is very close. With the facility upgrades, they can pull a lot of great recruits. If they'll ever add a visitor locker room, they'll pull great teams. Football is back, they'll be playing big name schools in a few years getting their name out there. Basketball, who knows. Soccer is here, softball is coming. Lamar is very close, but the important people are taking no initiative to put Lamar's name out there and enhance the school in any single way.

From a lot of your previous posts, I get the impression that Lamar wanted you to come to school there, but you were too good to settle for Lamar.  Why is it that now you are so willing to offer your expert opinion on everything that Lamar does?
Could you just go on about your business and let the Lamar Officials run the program at Lamar?

No, that's not it at all. It's my hometown school and I want it to be great. I don't want it to be an average university.. And if I was a person in power I wouldn't settle for that. At least admit the fact that everything I pointed out was true.. Because it is. I just wish they would be pushing every program to the public and getting people excited about every sport, not just football. When you take notice of one sport, you'll follow another.. And another. But at your wish I'll try and stay off this thread. Sorry for you thinking that I'm conceited or anything like that, because if you knew me.. You'd know I'm very different from that.

No AJ I agree with most of what you said. I think with an extra push from the athletic department, the president, and a few boosters Lamar could be a top mid major program in several sports like baseball, volleyball, basketball, football, and soccer within the next 5 to 8 years. That would be great and could get them in a larger conference which means more money. I personally just don't see the will from a lot of the areas in the athletic department. And this thread is just part of it. Where is the list of goals for LU athletics? I would really like to see it.
