Memorial Tuesday night, it took eight innings, not just for a winner to be decided, but for the first run to be scored.“I can’t remember being in a game where my team didn’t score a single run until the eighth inning,†Sterling coach Paul Tadlock said. “It was a hard fought game. We just hope the sticks come back around and play in our favor.â€The Rangers eventually pulled away with a 1-0 win at Ronnie Kluch Field. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Zach Zavala doubled to left field, and two batters later, he was brought home off a base hit from Brendan Boudreaux.“I went over to first base for the first time ever, in my 13 years of coaching,†Tadlock said. “I was hoping it would change our luck but I was afraid I might have to stay there because of these superstitions.â€Joseph Mack pitched for the Rangers until the sixth inning when he was relieved by Trey Pledger. The two Rangers pitchers combined for a total of 12 strikeouts, allowing four hits and five walks.“It seems like we’re in a bit of a slump, but fortunately for us, I thought that both of our pitchers did a fantastic job tonight,†Tadlock said. “They did a good job at throwing the rock and helped us get out of this funk. We’ve just got to keep working at it.†Stedman Haynes was the starting pitcher for the Titans and was relieved by Jaylan Lott in the seventh inning. The two pitchers struck out 10 Sterling batters, and walked four.Colton Kolaja and Mike Lopez each had two hits as the Rangers finished with a total of six hits. The last time the Rangers went head-to-head with the Titans, the Rangers pulled out a narrow 6-4 win.Tadlock believes the fact the Titans are in search for their first win will give them that much more motivation, and won’t be an easy team to beat.“We’ve got to turn around and face them again Friday night,†Tadlock said. “We’ll go in with Garrett Lamb pitching and hopefully the sticks will turn into back in our favor.â€The Rangers now hold an overall record of 10-11 and are 4-4 in District 21-5A play. Friday’s game on the road is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.
