Chucky Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 The reason Gilligan has bullpen problems is that he has too many pitchers to begin with. A 10 to 11 man staff is all any team needs to be effective. If his answer is that he is going deep with those 3 kids on weekends then the season is over anyhow. Hell he recruited those kids. How about saying I just can't get it done as a coach folks. I have to have kids who can do it on their own. Th reason the two young kids are doing so well is that they haven't been poisoned by his methods of teaching yet. Give him time and they too will become mediocre.
Guest baseball25 Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Dude you must no nothing about baseball, there is never to many pitchers on a staff, every good program has atleast 18-20 pitchers, 10-11 is not enough, you have 3 pitchers for weekend games, and then 6 in the bullpen for the weekend, then during mid week games you have 5 pitchers that can atleast throw 2 starters and the other 3 coming in relief, pitchers arms get tired and they have dead arm around 70 innings pitch so you need to have other pitchers ready just in case, also pitchers get hurt during the season so you need as many pitchers as possible believe me, I played at the div 1 level and the more pitching you have the better off your team is.
Chucky Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Well that is where you are wrong 25. I too played at the D1 level and beyond so I believe I do have a clue about the game. It may be true that today's teams have that many pitchers and to that I may be wrong. However, it is theHC job to use them correctly and to develope them. No not all will be effective but they must contribute and improve. That is the pitching coach and in this case of Lamar the HC responsibility imo.
Crazy Card Fan Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 In response to the "anti-Gilligan" messages that are popping up on this board; In many instances the posters, (Chucky, baseball 25 etc), have very valid points, HOWEVER.......Gilligan has earnt the right to run his team however he see's fit, and the administration have, and most likely will continue to give him a free Raine to continue doing so.He is (like it or not) a legend in the college game, and almost every major success in the history of L.U. baseball is because of his hard work. Fact is, we as fans have incredibly high standards of expectation for this ball club, but this is because Gilligan built it from nothing to a nationally respected program.I get that it hurts to see the team not play how we feel they should, but I would implore people to respect Gilligan and his contribution to the program, and trust that he will have the club back on track ASAP. I really do understand the frustration of some fans on the board, but I guess all I'm saying is that weather you love or hate Gilligan, we should all show him the respect he deserves.Go L.U. Baseball!!
Guest baseball25 Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Bowden is a LEGEND my friend and you saw what FSU did to him, Gilligan isn't a legend, how can you be a legend when you don't have a National Championship lol.
Chucky Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 I will back off the negative comments just for this board. However, I am not a fan of how the program is ran at this point in time. Enough said by me for a while.....promise.
ForeverADog Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Chicky, not trying to be rude but you said Lamar has too many pitchers and they only need 10 to 11. I am just letting you know that they actually have only 9 they use on a regular basis. The others have pitched about 20 innings combined. This team has been very resilient all year and looks to possibly be turning the corner. They have a good chance at getting a 4 seed in the SLC tourney. When they were 2-7 in conference I would have never thought they would climb up this far so quickly. Give this team a chance. They should be real good next year as well!
Chucky Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 I too am a fan of Lamar sports and hope they make a huge playoff run. No more negativity from me.
Guest baseball25 Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 it's not called playoffs lol, its called Regional tournament, Super regionals, and College World Series, lol a huge playoff run lol come on now chucky, always remember you can never have to much pitching, once regionals start and you lose the first game u gotta come back and win 4 straight to just make it to super regionals, so you always need enough pitching.
Chucky Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 Hey 25 I know what the technical name of the venues is called. However, at what point is it not the playoffs or post season? I pitched in a Regional in college two times and therefore I believe I know what I am talking about.
Guest baseball25 Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 Well congra, like I said you can never have to much pitching.
