1696dogs Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Our announcer has NEVER made a comment like the ones made by the Vidor announcer. Saying 'the umpires are going to need a police escort tonight' is about as tacky as it gets. I think the announcer is lucky they didn't here him on the field. He may have had to join the asst coach. And by the way, I very much respect Kyle Green when it comes to his coaching abilities and I understand the reason he got upset, but that's his job to appeal not the announcers.
spoonbill Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 i've heard "tacky" comments from announcers at nederland baseball and football games.... mainly football games. it doesn't seem as "tacky" when it's your announcers and your team and you are the one on the wrong side of a call. you mostly remember the ones when you're the visitor. it shouldn't happen, but it does on occasion. it's not like this is the first time it has occurred.
1696dogs Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 I'm not going to argue abour it but football and baseball are completely different. Baseball is more a gentlemen's sport with an unspoken code of ethics. But you're right, I'm sure when you're a visitor you do notice more.
spoonbill Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 props go out to schlett...that hit was the difference in the game. big hit in a big situation. he's definitely a player.

I can't attest to football. Vidor ISD should be embarassed and the administrator on duty needed to grow a pair after the first comment and take control before the 2nd comment regarding umps needing an escort was made. The announcer is a hypocrite....read a list of rules and be the first to violate them. Quit trying to excuse poor and unprofessional behavior. Now the players played hard and this issue is taking away from that fact. Good luck to Vidor as they move forward and Go Dogs!

vpride Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 I just can't believe we are looking at fourth place and having to face the district champion from 19. This is not a good way to get the playoffs started. I was expecting to play the 2nd or even 3rd seed and have a much easier time getting our first playoff series win, getting on a role and making a run. Now that is in jepordy.

The runner acted as if he was going to make a play on the ball for no other reason than to distract the fielder. Maybe MrUmp can post the rule on here so you can read it.The Vidor coaches were upset that it wasn't called immediately when it happened, and took an appeal to get it overturned. Any coach is going to argue if a call is overturned, but the right call was made in the end.
MrUmp1 Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 If there is runner interference on a force play, then two will be called out. Doesn't matter if it happens at the bag or not. I wasn't there did not see the play just going by what I have been told.

[/quote]that's what i was trying to say, i was annoyed that the call took so long, call it when it happens or don't call it at all imo, i wasnt tryin to say it was a bad call, just tryin to say that the way it was handled was bad.my bad, should have clarified that more in my previous post
Gtj007 Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 It's easy to make the statement " I've heard worse from Nederland announcers". But could you be a little more specific. What have you heard from Nederland announcers?
