Silsbee lost the most of any team this year, I don't see them making the playoffs.  WOS has one of the best players in the district coming back, HF is so streaky who knows what they'll do.  HJ lost the MVP, but returns everyone, OF only lost one player and also return everyone.

Orangefield need to get in the gym and shoot the ball also work on freethrows. If their shooting comes around they will be hard to beat in 21 3A.

You didn't see them making it this year either. ;)

Silsbee has two first team all-district players, a second team and an honorable mention player returning.

Looking at everyone who is back and all other things considered, ..........same song, second verse..............HJ and Orangefield will battle it out for the district championship again (probably splitting home and home).....3rd is probably a toss up.  I will go with HF because of those returning but after the job the Silsbee coach did this year with what he had returning, I have to put the Tigers in the mix.

  • 4 months later...
Thanks for bumping this one Bobcat05.  The Volleyball Board (and season) has been less than interesting for the last couple of months.  HF will be adjusting to Coach Collazo after the old coach left late (very late) in the summer.  The one thing I can say for sure is that it will be good to see the girls running up and down the court once again.  :)

Didn't every starting player 21-3A make All-District last year?  ;)

Does not matter HF is all about volleyball. As long as they let HF girls play volleyball during basketball season they will be average at best.

Bleed, I believe that can be said for Orangefield.....aren't they playing basketball during the current volleyball season.. At the beginning of this season they looked like one of the top teams..now they look like $):@!  But one statement is right, you should focus on the sport in season and that should never change.... :)

I have mixed feelings about that, I think they should still play basketball a few days a week, don't want them to be that rusty when the season starts...
You know I am a basketball guy but last year girls were playing volleyball oneday a week during basketball season and I opposed that so I cannot condon girls playing basketball during volleyball season. All the other teams will be rusty too. So I think it will be an even playing field.

It was agreed on from the beginning that basketball would get two days a week during volleyball season for any girls coordinator that came to OF.
Is that what they call them at Orangefield, coordinators, not coaches?

I am with Bleed, if you have volleyball players that play basketball, they should concentrate on the sport at hand which is currently volleyball.

When basketball starts, then just basketball.

    • I agree but Hitchcock had better skill players
    • Waco LaVega is about equal to Hitchcock in speed and size.
    • You’re the one talking about Elementary school kids.  What I’m saying is that there are kids who play Jr School ball in GCCISD and then transfer into BHISD/GPISD/LPISD/DPISD between 8th and 9th.  Doing so means no PAPF/eligibility questionnaire and they get to play Freshman/JV, work out with the team, etc. and look homegrown because they transferred before freshman year.  it’s a loophole.  All the big programs do it.  That’s why the UIL rules changes, to close up the 8th-to-9th transfer portal, and it isn’t even taking effect until Aug 1 2025 so you’ll see these transfers this summer. Also, as far as BHISD being closed instead of open, just look at the GCCISD transfer numbers I posted.  GCCISD loses twice as many kids to BHISD per year, the “closed” district, than they do to the open Districts in the area.  Anyone who lives here knows folks who’ve used MeeMaw’s address to get their kids in there.  It is what it is and if it wasn’t, UIL wouldn’t be changing those rules and sending one of their own to the DECs now would they?   Go ask Coach Abseck how many kids in his program are 8th Grade transfers.  We know that at North Shore that number is at least 20% because of the numbers they had to provide UIL during their recruiting investigation.  I’ll bet BHISD’s numbers are AT LEAST that.  Again, THEY ALL DO IT.
    • According to Texas Tribune, Gccisd, Laporte and deer park are all rated B. Barbers Hill is an A. GC has a higher 4 year graduation rate than LP or DP. BH is far and away the best district on this side of town. GC has a much higher percentage economically disadvantaged at 71.7% with LP being next closest at 52%. Surprised that GC is performing so well considering. All of the players that would likely make a great football team are out by GCM and Sterling. If GCM had Lee's coach and dropped back down into 5A division 1, they would be able to compete very well against BH and LP. I don't know what their problem is with getting the athletes to gel into an actual team. Lee still beat them both this year and was sort of a down year by Lee's standards. Lot of injuries some kids moved out of district and they are paper thin as it is.
