The National Junior College Athletic Association has named Lamar State College-Port Arthur sophomore infielder Ashley Corcoran to its 2010 Academic All-American list.

Corcoran, a 2008 graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School, recently completed her second year with the Seahawks.

To qualify for Academic All-American status, a student/athlete must complete one season of competition and earn 45 credit hours over three full semesters with a minimum grade point average of 3.6.

“We are very proud of Ashley,” said Lamar State head softball coach Vance Edwards. “She is a perfect examples of a student/athlete who is able to focus her efforts to excel on the field and in the classroom.”

Edwards also said Corcoran was one of the toughest players on his team.

“She finished the last half of the season playing on a pulled hamstring and never complained once about it,” Edwards said.

Corcoran, a kinesiology major, said she plans to go to a four-year school where she can play softball and pursue a bachelor’s degree.
