Forney to A&M?

Recommended Posts

Lately I've been hearing rumors that Forney has been getting strong looks from A&M and that he verbally committed to go play QB over there. Now i'm not saying it is impossible, but it is kinda hard to believe after he has only been QB for half a season, might have been less than half but i can't remember. But he does have a full year of playing QB ahead of him. Can anyone fill me in on this?

I follow A&M recruiting very closely and I have never seen his name on any potential A&M recruiting list.

AggiesAreWe, Is their anyone from the Area A&M has their eye on.. I heard one of the scouts liked a few from Central
[/quote]

They have already offered LaFredrick Ford, RB from Kirbyville.

They are looking at a couple of players from Central, can't say right now.

If he goes to A&M, that will be 2 kids from Nederland that will have gone to college and not get to play very much.  He will be just like the Dvrani Johnson (sp?) kid.  Just because a kid is big does not mean he can play.  I'm not bashing the kid, just saying he is not A&M material.  I don't think he is Sam Houston State material either.  Saying that....he should try Lamar...

bigdaddyblue, thanks for that info. I am with you on this. I am a 12th man subscriber and I recieve newsletters pertaining to Texas A&M recruiting news. Like I posted before, I have never seen Forney's name on any offer or recruiting list for Texas A&M.

Unless they are not disclosing this particular recruit (very hard to believe), the Aggies have not offered according to their athletic department.

OK...I don't know Dionte, but I do know what's going on in recruiting.  If a college is interested in an athlete an are considering offering, they get invited to the one day camp, usually about $40.  At this Camp, they will look at the individual(s), it's not a one man camp,  closely to determine who they will be offering.

For example:  Jr was being recruited heavily as a safety(tulane, UTEP, SMU, UH, AK, Lamar), a couple of DII and DIII schools are interested in him as a QB.  After Tulane, SMU, UTEP saw his highlight game (FB Hightower), they told him he will be evaluated as a DB and QB at the one day Camps (1/2 day as DB and 1/2 Day at QB).  These are Athletes, IMO, they have a strong possibility of receiving an offer if they perform well at these camps.

With that being said, good luck Forney!

WOW!  That is one heck of a sentence!

Does anyone know what the recruiting calendar says?  Can A&M offer right now?

If A&M is recruiting you Dionte, I hope it works out for you.

    • This is good info. It doesn’t really break out for student athletes though. LP & (I think) DP are open enrollment because of the way the towns intertwine. That’s the way it’s been for many years anyway. I assume it still is that way. The kids have a choice after Jr. High to go to either High School because LPISD has elementary schools in DP. As I recall, DP didn’t want to build out more (Robin Hood issues), and so DPISD & LPISD came to an arrangement because LPISD is one of the highest givers to Robin Hood in the state, and it helped both keep more funds in district. Of course, LPISD is open to all. Not just DP, and LPISD is rated well. So, I assume they have kids from elsewhere also. Not positive though. They used to have a lot because—for decades—DeWalt was the only dedicated public school in the GHA that specifically catered to special needs kids. Families from all over enrolled. But, they didn’t participate in extracurricular activities like sports. So, LP’s total enrollment made them 6A. But, they were really a 5A school all along for sports program sake. This is all as best as I can recall from when I was more involved in school issues. I’m sure a lot has changed since then. My kids have been out for 20 years.
    • Our playoff rivalry. They hold a 6-5 edge in the series. I think Newton continues the win streak in a hard fought contest. What say y’all?
    • Has Elmo gotten his aggy premature extension yet?  Pay him already because you guys were exactly right - he really does “get you.” 😂🤣
    • It’s been awhile, but I seem to remember 5 D starters out & 2 O starters out (OL). A big difference is that Simon wasn’t involved yet. He’s totally changed LP’s rushing attack from last year as a bruising, explosive addition to Barnes, Sandolph & Bright. Last year—and early this season—LP was missing that element. Now, Coach Berneathy is not making talented players wait like many other coaches & even his predecessors at LP. If the kid can produce at the varsity level, they’re moved up. And man, has Simon produced! Over 1200 yards & 20 TD’s in less than a full season so far! It’s allowed LP to alternate RB’s where Barnes doesn’t take all the pounding. Barnes and Sandolph are also able to split out as receivers as desired to add threats that weren’t really an option last year. The PNG/LP game was a full-on tilt & good for both squads. I remember Gary Joseph in the end zone giving his son pointers as an extra set of eyes since he’d had experience with LP in past PO matchups. That was a good game. The score wasn’t really indicative of the game. Not sure anyone felt it was over until the final whistle! Good luck to y’all in Cajun Country. Bring back a win for SE Texas. (Yes. La Porte is still SETX. Ha!)
