All about pitching like i said before these regionals started, this isn't southland teams there pitching against, thats why I said all yr that this will catch up with our starters if they made regionals bec they didn't face teams like this during non conf.

All tournaments come down to pitching. TCU is ranked 7th in the nation for a reason. I'm disappointed Lamar didn't play better but honestly I knew the Cardinals would have to play a perfect game to beat the Horned Frogs. Obviously, they didn't but after playing 40+ games I think they saw some good hitters and pitchers.

TCU is loaded from the top of the order to the bottom. I believe the #9 hitter in the order is hitting .330 or above for the season.

Plus, they pitched their #1 guy. Even if Lamar played a tougher OOC schedule they would not see a Top 25 teams #1 pitcher, especially during mid-week games.

first of all Matt Purke is TCU's number 1, everyone in the nation knows that if you follow college baseball, so you gotta get your facts right, I am  talking about Lamar pitchers facings top notch hitters out of conference, only team they played is RICE, I am saying that Lamar's starting rotation didn't see any top teams this yr to prepare them for regionals thats all im saying, I mean lamars pitching got rocked by southland teams this yr so I figured this would happen, I hope lamar wins a slugfest today I gotta a feeling it will be, so hopefully lamar can bounce back with a big win.

I think I found out what you and I disagree about. I don't think facing great hitting teams makes you a better pitcher (maybe makes you have a higher ERA  ;D)

I believe it is talent and coaching that makes one a good or great pitcher. We can take your cousin for example. Did he face great hitting while pitching for Lumberton or did he just have outstanding talent?

Lamar has a couple pitchers in MLB (Sanches and Hensley) so I think they might not have the talent Clay has but they got great coaching at Lamar.

As a pitcher all my life and at the div 1 level and been around the game all my life, facing good competition helps you as a pitcher but more mentally, pitching against good teams has you in a mind set ok I got to spot up and stay low in the zone and get ahead first pitch strike, I pitched against Arizona st,rice,Troy, la laf, creightons and etc and it's a totally different mind set when you pitch against those teams than southland teams, Maine, north Dakota st.  Ok then of coaching helps being a great pitcher then why are opponents hitting over 290 against Lamar starters and era above 4, just like the Yankees and rays as a pitcher your going in knowing you gotta be more of a  bull dog and battle bec they take a different approach at the plate then most MLB teams, big time college teams have a way different approach than southland teams.

Mentally you have to be focused for any game (or atleast I did). Playing for one of the best coaches in the area at the time. I know coaching is vastly important in the development of a pitcher. Our best pitcher played at Lamar back in the 80's.

Hard for me to believe you don't think coaching is important for the success of a pitcher (no matter the talent). Especially when we are talking about the mechanics of a pitcher.

Man your either good or your not, a coach can help no doubt but your either a stud or just a ok a pitcher. I mean none of my coaches help me and clay in high school about pitching and I pitch on Varsity my freshman yr and not one coach help me improve I got better because I worked on it by my self  and I was gifted baseball player, we hardly threw bull pens in hs, we threw them at our houses, you either got it or you don't.

This has nothing to do with facing good teams like baseball25 is talking about.
As a pitcher at the college level, I know I would feel much better about myself having faced great teams earlier in the year because I would know what to expect and how to react to certain situations. In Lamar's case, I'm sure most pitchers on staff would feel much better facing TCU and Baylor if they had played teams of that calibar in pre-conference because it wouldn't be anything new. Now they are facing top teams in the nation and HAVING to win when no one on the team (Mainly the pitchers) has faced anyone that good all their life. Coaching definitely helps, but ask any coach.. they can only coach you so much. Only YOU can get out on that bump and send the batter back to the dugout.

Alex Moshier was a catcher when he went to SFA.. And he was probably going to get drafted this year if he was healthy, but I'm sure he'll get drafted as soon as he is back from his surgery.
Catchers probably have the strongest and most accurate arms on the field. I've talked to quite a few catchers and all of them feel they could probably adjust to getting on the bump.
