Felts, Hicks will play in THSBCA All-Star tilt

ORANGE — Orangefield’s Jacob Felts and Bridge City’s Matt Hicks will get to represent their respective high schools onemore time as both will compete in the Class 1A-2A-3A Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game Saturday, June 19 at noon Round Rock’s Dell Diamond Field.

Both will compete for the South squad.

Felts was an outstanding catcher for the Bobcats for four seasons. Felts, who signed to play college baseball at The University of Texas, was a key cog in leading the Bobcats to the playoffs the last two seasons. This year Felts helped guide the Bobcats to a District 21-3A crown and a trip in the Class 3A Region III Finals.

Hicks was an all-district performer for four years in a Cardinal uniform as Bridge City made the playoffs every season he was in the program.

Hicks was a master on the mound for the Cardinals and carried a strong bat while also playing shortstop when he wasn’t pitching. Hicks will continue his baseball endeavors at Louisiana-Lafayette University.

Teammates of Felts and Hicks on the South squad include pitchers Carl Huizar (Bishop); Matt Walker (Robinson); Dylan Boss (Boerne) and Trey Masek (Giddings).

Catchers will be Felts and Jackson McCurdy (White Oak). First baseman will be Kyle Mueller (Bellville) and Kory Wilkinson (Wolfe City). Second basemen will be Zach Mikulenka (Flatonia) and Cody Coleman (New Waverly). The shortstops will be Hicks and Shane Segovia (Sinton) and the third basemen will be Marty Bigham (Schulenburg) and Brock Otto (Fayetteville).

The outfielders will consist of Jordan Stefek (Taylor); Telvin Darden (Overton); Clay Hardee (Centerville); and Jonathan Eiman (Franklin). At-large players include Zack Matthys (Mart) and Will Pace (Comfort).

The South All-Star coaches are Darryl Joiner (Lovelady); Melvin Bates (Salado); and Jim Goldman (Carthage).

The North squad is led by pitchers Carlton Bickerstaff (Mineola); Thomas Weber (Gatesville); Aidan Rivera (Estacado); and Hunter Perry (Bosqueville).

The catchers are Jake Sizelove (Argyle) and Zack Patino (Brock).

The first basemen will be Michael Welch (Bushland) and Wesley Roberson (Kennedale). Second basemen are Donovan Vess (Lake Worth) and Dustin Neff (Sonora). Shortstops will be Chris Bearden (Whitewright) and Michael Gilley (Pleasant Grove) and the third basemen will be Colton Rathmell (Grape Creek) and Patrick Dayton (Archer City).

The outfield will consist of Daniel BrEwer (Hawley); Chris Sadberry (Holliday); Evan Burton (Forsan); Richard Smoak (Iowa Park); Matt Hall (Hamlin); and Kent Miller (Crawford).

The North coaching staff consists of Joel Kuehl (Bosqueville); Jay Johnson (Palmer) and James Evans (Celina).
