KFDM COOP Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 My gut feeling was right!! Thoughts? Opinions?
jdawg03 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 reportedly there were some very mad folks at the meeting when this was announced...there were some players that said they would not play for Thompson
ESPN Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 People in Port Arthur are always pissed about something..They wouldn't know a good Coach if they saw one!!
KFDM COOP Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 It will be interesting to see how all this pans out.
SETXFan Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I hope the ones that dont want play for him dont play....Weed out all the losers and start fresh....I dont care who it is or how good of a player they are, if theyre not even willing to give the guy a chance, PAM doesnt need them anyhow
KFDM COOP Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 Yes, because Thompson is a good Coach!
BCBBall Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I know Thompson and he is a fine coach. You can not beat his experience.
Guest bigred99 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I don't agree with this pick, but the bench looked mighty thin. From memory of the candidates Sedberry: Was willing to take a pay cut, which scares me. Senegal: Never coached a down in a varsity sport Vanover: Seem a little arrogant, Dibol Thompson : City councilman You can’t tell me in the big state of Texas you can’t find an eager, enthusiastic, 35-40 year old Football Coach who comes highly recommended by a well respected mentor ?
SilsbeeD Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Well maybe alot of these coaches that you want, didnt want the job. PA isnt in the best of place right now but i think it has some nice athletes that can be well coached. aka Jamal Charles
rhino1877 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 The whole situation is bad! Don't know much about the coaches for the job, but I am glad that someone is going to have a chance to start fresh with a little time before next season.
rjb59 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I think it was a good decision to hire Thompson. Look at the coaches and players that learned under him: Newman at Nederland, Mike Owens at Tyler, Todd Dodge at SLC, Craig Stump at Westbrook, and former Nederland coach, Derouen. I'm sure I left some out, but all of these coaches and players learned from Thompson.
KFDM COOP Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 Well said rjb! Silsbee D your right as well!!
Guest bigred99 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Well said rjb! Silsbee D your right as well!! Guess Coop that I have it wrong, huh?
rjb59 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 bigred99, is that Big Red as in Bridge City or Lamar?
Guest bigred99 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 bigred99' date=' is that Big Red as in Bridge City or Lamar?[/quote'] Both
rjb59 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Then maybe you were hoping that Thompson would still be around if coach Tarver does not get his contract renewed at Bridge City. Bridge City has big problems with their program. I don't think Todd Dodge could bring them to the promised land.
Guest bigred99 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 rjb59 What more does Tarver have to do. Playoffs in almost every sport you can name. Tarver is the Dick Cheney of coaching, he could care less what the media or the public thinks, results do the talking.
KFDM COOP Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 He didn't shoot anybody on accident did he?? :ROFL
Guest bigred99 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 He didn't shoot anybody on accident did he?? :ROFL Coop, your in the media, I wouldn't go hunting with him, if I were you.
rjb59 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I have nothing against Tarver, just stating that the program lacks what it takes to win a State Championship in football, and it starts with the players.

Track, Baseball and Softball look pretty good.
