WOSgrad Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 3 teams advance1. Evadale2. Burkeville3. High Island4. Sabine Pass5. Chester
Rebel Yeller Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 I have no problem with the way DCTF has our district ranked.I had heard that Chester was exploring moving to 6 man as they only have 13 or 14 coming out for football next season. Anyone know anything about that?
Guest Burkeville Chronicle Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Burkeville vs. Evadale...it is going to be a better game than most realize...the Mustangs have been working very hard during the spring and so far this summer..add that some move-ins will bolster the defense and offense, and we have the makings of a real good game.
Guest Burkeville Chronicle Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Yeller, I got that word that Chester refuses to go 6 man and will field a team of 11 although they may only have 13 or 14 suited out...this was from a very reliable source...really does not make alot of sense to me..but thats JMO

That it is either 11 man or cancel the season? I mean, it would difficult for them to fill a 6-man schedule if they knew back in February. I figure it would be virtually impossible to change it now just a couple of months before the beginning of the regular season.BTW, I agree with you that the best course for them is 6 man.
JCfan Posted June 14, 2010 Report Posted June 14, 2010 Well, I have commented on the Chester situation before. It is tough. I believe they have less than 6 male seniors and probably only three or four are athletes. There are good athletes there, but it becomes very challenging to field a 11 man team. However, as long as UIL will let them, they can play if they have 11. I know this presents the possibility that they could have to cancel throwing others into an extra bye week, but that is just the way it is. I am not saying I agree with it, but it is also hard for a community that has always had football and was once pretty good at it to let it go. It may be best, but still hard for people to grip. I think some people there know that something needs to change, but some hold out hope that the numbers for football will pick back up in the next two years. They need to think about what is best for the kids and the school as a whole, not just their emotions of wanting football. I understand wanting Friday nights to stay the same and the enjoyment that football brings to a community, but when your kids are getting hurt because of a lack of numbers and having to play all the time, you need to consider the health of your kids. If your line averages 160, it is likely your backfield is in danger of injury with the athletes of today. I wish for their sake this were not even an issue. Good people and kids their that do not want to have to try the six man route do to the extensive travel and the change. I know the people there and the new AD will consider all the facts and do what they feel is best.

Ofcourse the stangs get more move ins that doesnt surprise me one bit, but it they still wont defeat the rebels trust me!! Good luck ROSE
Rebel Yeller Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 The Rebels hope to make a run at football like they just did with baseball. There are plenty of starters and tested backups returning from last years 10-1 team.Tyler Tucker SR TE DTAdam Stark SR TE DTBilly Nichols SR QB ILBChase Franklin SR FB ILBChris Harvey SR G ILB PunterTrey White SR T NGJosh Swift SR T DT Kicker Ryan Freeman SR FB OLBEli Loar SR G OLB Dustin Potts SR WB CB Kick Returner (Injuried last season)Gage Galvez SR RB CB JV last year11 Seniors, 10 with at least one yr of varsity, 6 with 2 yrs, 4 with 3 yrs varsity experence Shawn Totten JR TE OLBKip Rawls JR WB CB (Injuried last season)Matthew Conner JR G DTBrandon Midkiff JR C DTBrandon Bruce JR RB SDevon Murphy JR QB S JV last yearKyle Taylor JR C ILB JV last year 8 Juniors 5 with one yr of varsity experienceThere will be others that get a shot or who might transfer in during the summer, but on a 1A squad you have to be impressed with the number of returning players and the experience level that the Rebels will bring to the field in 2010. Should be a another great year for the Rebels!
Guest Burkeville Chronicle Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 Wow! The Rebels are losing that many players next year?
Rebel Yeller Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010
Wow! The Rebels are losing that many players next year?
We are not focusing on what we are loosing, especially since the school year has not even started yet. But we appreciate your concern BC. Just to ease your mind the last time the Rebels lost a big senior class (9 guys) in 2009 the Rebels recovered just fine and went 10-0 in the regular season.Having the JV program playing 2A and 3A teams just allows Evadale's freshmen and sophomores the opportunity to play and gain experience without having to be thrown to the wolves, so to speak. Having those young men tested on the field instead of standing on the sidelines allows Coach Williams the reload option instead of having to rebuild every year. It seems to be working too! 3rd place finishes in district in 2006 and 2007 and playoff appearances. An undefeated district championship in 2008 and another playoff appearance. And finally a 10-0 regular season and another district championship and still another playoff appearance. If you follow the logical progression then you get 2010 as another step in the playoff progression. This large group of seniors has been in the playoffs every year they have played. They have won the last two district championships, they have won two of the last three years of JV championships against district teams that played JV football. So again BC thanks for the concern and we can't wait for our return trip to Burkeville on Oct 8th. See Ya!
Guest Burkeville Chronicle Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Its going to be a good one Yeller... I cant wait to get to friday night lights!
