NorthoftheBorder Posted June 22, 2010 Report Posted June 22, 2010 BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University football coach Ray Woodard bolstered his offensive line Tuesday with the addition of junior college transfers Billy Dawson and Jacobson Joseph to the Lamar University football team. Dawson (6-3, 310) comes to Lamar from La Mesa, Calif., by way of Grossmont College. He was a two-year starter at center and an all-conference performer, helping the Griffins to an 8-3 record last season and a 27-22 win over El Camino in the U.S. Bank Beach Bowl. "Billy can play either center or guard," commented Woodard, "and he brings lots of experience after starting two years in junior college." Joseph (6-4, 300) played at rival Fullerton Community College and helped the Hornets to a pair of 10-2 seasons. A four-year letterman at offensive tackle from Plantation (Fla.) High School, Joseph helped the Hornets average 398 yards of offense per game and blocked for JUCO All-America running back Kenny Turner. Looks like Woodard is bringing in the beef. I think he probably understands that championships are won on the line. Hopefully these guys are the real deal."Jacobson is very athletic and has good feet for a player his size," noted Woodard. "He is a good player at a position where good players can be hard to find."
