KFDM COOP Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/local/coaches_have_fond_memories_of_astrodome.htmlHooks won his first state championship with West Orange-Stark in the 21-9 victory against McKinney there."My favorite memory was looking at that big scoreboard and seeing us 21, them nine," Hooks said. "It was a dream come true. Something for coaches, players and fans to be proud of."
bobbymcgee Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 I've been to many high school games there. It was always fun. Not to open pandora's box, but I still don't know why Nederland didn't just go with a qb sneak on the last play in that 2000 Bay City game.

outanup Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 How about Yoder in the Power I at tailback, and let him dive over and in for six? I believe this was discussed, but the play wasnt called.
GoDogs27 Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 That game will haunt me for the rest of my life.. I still think we scored on the play before that and got robbed.. I specifically remember having an ice cream in my hand and jumping up and down when everyone thought Nederland scored.. needless to say the ice cream was no longer in my hand.. As far as what the call should have been? Well I think Barrow decided to stick with the philosophy of "dance with the one who brought you".. the only problem is, ramoin didnt stand a chance.. I dont know that a QB sneak stood a chance either.. Bay City had their goaline set in and their line backers were stuffed in each gap up the middle.. the smart play wouldve been a play action pass to a back or TE in the flats.. it wouldve been wide open..
PURPLE 4EVER Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 In the 1970's the dome was really a big teepee!!!Some marvelous memories of PN-G there....
PN-G bamatex Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 I remember the 1999 4A-DII state championship being played there. I don't remember much about it, but one thing I do remember is the sea of purple you could see as you entered the stadium (that leaves a big imprint on the mind of an elementary school student). I also remember those stupid noisemakers that Stephenville brought to try and drown out Cherokee. It was funny to me because, by the end of the game, not only could you still clearly hear the band, they were beating their drums and propane tanks in beat with our fight song.
Guest PrimeTime Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 I know one coach who is undefeated in the Astrodome. Coach John Baker.

[/quote]I know another one. Coach Alex Durley. He won 5 straight playoff games there in 1982, and ended with a state championship.
