How will your Junior High team do this year ?

I think the Woodrow Wilson Junior High Ponies in Dayton will do pretty good this year. My brother will play on the 8th grade B team and last year I think he said that they had only two or three losses plus they play good as a team, since they are all good friends.

Little Cypress's 8th grade team is supposed to be really good.  Both of Mauriceville's teams, ironically, are not predicted to do very well.  Unfortunately, it seems that the north part of LCM is undergoing a cultural change...people around the Middle School will understand what I'm talking about

I don't think they lost any last year. Daytons 8th grade will be pretty strong, I am a little worried about that 7th grade bunch.

The 7th grade B team last year did lose at least 2 games that I know of-Barbers Hills and McCullough. This year I heard that the 7th grade teams have some big boys on them. As for the 8th grade A team it has size and the B team has good teamwork (I can't remember if my brother said size or speed). I guess we will just have to wait to see how things play out.

Didnt WOS schedule C.O. Wilson and some Beaumont school?  I heard there were some good 7 on 7 action between C.O. and WOS.  Hope that translates into a good game.  Does anyone know when and where they play?

Yes they do play each other this year and I am not sure yet where they play. They also played one another 3 times this year in 7 on 7 with WOS winning 2 of those, but all three were close and intense. I look for the real game to be that way as well.

They play Sep 21 at 7pm.  Should be a good game if the 7on7 games are any indication...

I will go out on a limb and say the WOS & CO Wilson 8th grade A teams could compete with any 8th grade team in the state. Both teams are loaded with talent. Most importantly really good kids. I expect a great game and it will be fun to watch as this group grow up playing against each other.

You obviously haven't seen the 8th Grade Dayton Ponies.
They are....
AWEsome!  Yet even more talent pouring into Dayton High School next year.  Lots of speed and size with this group.

I think Dayton might be down a little, they played a very good Cunningham team in the first round.  Cunningham is the major feeder junior high into North Shore.

In another thread you can read about Dayton's 8th A team that obliterated Cunningham.  That was Cunningham's 8th A Team's 1st loss in 15 years!

Sounds like Nederland and WOS has some good 8th graders, just seeing what I have seen, I would put my money on Dayton's 8th graders to beat anybody around here.

    • REL actually improved this year to 6-4 which was remarkable because like you said, they had a lot of injuries and their bench was thin before that.  It’s crazy how the smallest of the 3 GCCISD High Schools finds a way to at least field a team that can hold their own but you’re right that coaching is one aspect of it.  Not that they’re a top 150 team or even close to it but if they’d lost a couple less guys there’s a real chance they could have beat Texas City and gone to at least the 1st round of playoffs this year which for GCCISD football might as well be State for how hard it is for them.   You’re spot-on about GCM and RSS coaches.  GCM coach is 2-28 over 3 years and RSS coach is 15-45 over 6.  Hard to get kids to participate in what they know from the outset is a losing proposition.  I watched the GCM/NS Game.  I was worried someone would get hurt, felt sick.  All 22 of NS starters are high level D1 Commits, QB is 19 years old, and GCM lined up a bunch of Sophomores against them, kids that aren’t even old enough to drive.     I know GCCISD wouldn’t ever do it but they really ought to stop insisting that the 3 High Schools play each other for their first 2 out of conference games.  At least let GCM out of it.  All 3 schools are in different Classifications so the wins don’t matter except for bragging rights around town and with REL winning both those games every season all it does is kill morale before the first District game is even played.  Let GCM schedule some OOC games on their level like Houston Sterling/Sam Houston/Chavez for their first 3.  That way there’s a good chance even if they lose every District game they could end up 3-7 and if they beat Channelview 4-6.  GCM having to lose to RSS and REL to start their season every year is just a killer.   You want to know why all the talent at EF Green Jr doesn’t show up at GCM?  Because that talent transfers to North Shore after 8th grade is done.  Straight-up.  They don’t care if you know either.  Those kids moms get on Facebook and brag about it.  Of course, most of those kids end up so far back on the depth chart that by Sophomore year they want to transfer back just so they can get to play at all but then you run into the eligibility thing.    Anyway, sorry for the off-topic tangent, this is a BH thread.
    • They are very good. Really good shooting guard that's '6"3. Also have a do it all forward that's '6"5. He does everything for them. Score, rebound, defend. Maybe not as quick overall as those other teams, but I think they will at least make state semifinals.
