Tsrn Sports Hou.Area 4A Pre-Season Rankings

Recommended Posts

I thought after hurr.Ike alot of Ball atheletes moved to La Marque? The 1 that puzzles me is Huntsville @#16 as they lost their qb to graduation + don't they have a new coach? And next we have Sharpstown and we know Yates has been the only hstn.area 4a team to go 2 rds lately but overall it's not too bad and I think Manvel led by Dexter Foreman should be on this poll.

Humble is probably too low in my opinion.

We're sitting here talking about Dayton being able to hang in there with Ike and how that would prove just how good they are going to be this year....but Humble beat Ike last year.  Same Ike team that beat West Brook.

It's been documented time and again.
When teams drop down a classification, they become more dangerous.

That's just a touch misleading.

If a team is steadily losing enrollment over a period of time, then it makes more sense to use the years that are extremely close to the drop.

Let's say Humble 6 years ago really did have good 5A numbers, so that's not pertinent.
Six years from now, Humble might be low even for 4a numbers so that is not really pertinent any more.

The important numbers are to see what they did when they were barely hanging on to the large classification, then see how they did when they were at the very top of their lower classification and still had the residue of players having played the larger classifications left over roaming their halls.

Jasper in their last 3 years of 4A ball went 6-4, 3-8 and 12-2.
Jasper in their first 3 years of 3A ball went 12-2, 11-3 and 12-4

That's a jump from 21-14 to 35-9.  They went to the semi-finals twice and the finals once in their first three years in 3A.

Look at Longview.
Last year in 5A they went 12-2.  They outscored their opponents 403-224 and lost in the quarterfinals.
First year in 4A they went 14-2.  They outscored their opponents 613-325 and lost only to 5A Allen and juggernaut Lake Travis.
Second year 4a they went 14-2.  They beat the tar out of everyone except 5A Lufkin and powerhouse LT again.

In their 5A district, they won by 17, 8, 4, 8 and 25
In their 4A district, they won by 34, 19, 44, 29, 14 and 27.
In 2009 in district, they won by 3, 45, 44, 17, 45 and 49

They were good all three years, don't get me wrong.  They went from going undefeated in district with a 12 point victory margin to going undefeated with a 27 point victory margin to going undefeated with a 34 point victory margin.

Again, the only times they lost the last two years were to 5A teams and Lake Travis.

As stated panamamyers(sometimes)and you're prolly correct-Humble will do good and Lee will to eventually but still a + for the dist.losing a fairly new school in KWP and new coaching on a few teams the future of 19-4a as it stands @ present will hopefully make some noise.Constuction on the Grand Parkway along w/new bussiness 105 so.of Cleveland HS out towards 290 and widening hiway 146 should bring our area some improved growth down the road.

The Angleton vs Dayton game should be a dan dan dandy!!!!

That Angleton/Dayton game should be entertaining, but tough for the Wildcats playing @ Dayton. But that Angleton/Friendswood game in week 0 will be great game to start off the season for both teams. Then the Cats turn around and play the 5A regional finalist Brazoswood Buccaneers, so it's going to be a tough opening 3 weeks. Oh and then after playing Dayton, we'll have Alief Elsik next. Man, what a schedule!

Willis is definetely way too high. Aren't they like 4-26 over the last 30 games. I know they were like 0-20 for two straight years.
They have alot returning, and one of the best air attacks in the area.  They put up lots of points and lots of yards per game.  If their defense would half way step up, they would be a really good team.  However, they don't and they have to get in a shoot out to pull out a victory.  A talented secondary usually means, blowout against Willis.  If your team is weak back there, it could be a blowout the other way.

The top 5 is pretty solid.

Humble, PNG and Yates are too high.

Crosby and Central are too low.

El Campo is a tough team that could make some noise.

GCM is 3rd in 19 4A

Nederland at 17 is funny.

Barbers Hill is noticeably absent
Where would you put Humble Downgoesfrazier?  So i am guessing you agree with just about every other poll that has come out, that has left us out.

Where are we going to finish in district in your eyes?

Well, im ready to have the boys hit the field....We are going to bring a ton of pain.  We are LOADED.

    • I don’t know about any rivalry there because I don’t live there but although LP and DP play in different classifications they still have a lot in common.  I mean, both beat Barber’s Hill this year!
    • I’m super excited for this game.  PNG has the team and game plan that will slow TH down.  No way we can stop them the entire game, but I feel if we slow them down we can win similar to what we did last year to Lake Creek and SOC.
    • Well Mustang fans it's time for my annual end of season rant. I've had so much company up here on the soapbox that I may have to start charging rent. After 3 years I don't think anything needs to be said. We all know what's wrong. We all know why. So what's the decision at the next board meeting? IMO, there's been enough imaginary success for the board to rubber stamp the Superintendent's vision for our future student athletes. #make every second count Due to soft scheduling and a weaker than normal district. The luck of knocking off 2 ranked opponents early when they were not healthy or still trying to figure it out. Also led to a premature ranking and a hollow DCTF weekly award. The 2 late season losses vs ranked teams proves what we know has been the biggest problem.  Football 19-15 .559 Baseball 9-35 .205 Basketball 19-35 .352 GBB 11-29 .275 Softball 1-22 .043 Volleyball 0-38 .000 Overall 59-174 .253   For anyone living in the district, I ask that you contact you're elected board members publicly and privately. Don't let them think this is exceptable. Be the solution to the equation. Not the divisor. This starts at the top and falls heavily upon those walking the halls. They deserve better.
    • I don't think it's 6-5 maybe 4-3
    • Sounds like a good idea, and something’s been needed for a long time. I know—where my kids & grandkids live now (DFW area)—schools are like revolving doors for athletic purposes. I don’t think the DPISD & LPISD option enrollment are anywhere like that. I assume it’s pretty above board since it was an arrangement apparently agreed to also by the state. I do know some kids that went to LPISD elementary schools in DP chose to go to DPHS because of the district rating. (Of course, at the time, DPISD and DP in general wasn’t very racially mixed like La Porte.) LPISD has a high number of kids on assistance programs compared to DP. Say what you will, it does make it more difficult for educational purposes and scores can reflect as much. LPISD is still rated high even with that challenge. Some of the kids that chose DPHS were very solid athletes that I’m sure LP would love to have had attend LPHS. Of course, part of the big rivalry between DP & LP has always been because DP ‘looked down’ on LP even though we worked side-by-side. Now that Shell DP refinery has been sold to PEMEX, DP is changing. Some aren’t happy about it. Some of us in LP are kinda tickled about it after the history.
