HoopInsider_Cooper Posted August 4, 2010 Report Share Posted August 4, 2010 A spot in the Preseason WNIT and a contest at perennial power Tennessee highlight the 2010-2011 Lamar University women’s basketball schedule, announced by coach Larry Tidwell on Wednesday.The Lady Cardinals, the defending Southland Conference regular-season and tournament champions, are coming off a 26-8 record and a berth in last season’s NCAA Tournament. Lamar will play 13 home games in the Montagne Center and participate in three in-season tournaments, including the Preseason NIT. Lamar is scheduled to play a minimum of 30 games this season.Lamar will open the season at Missouri State in the first round of the Preseason NIT at 6:05 p.m. Nov. 12. The Lady Cardinals are guaranteed to play a minimum of three games in the Preseason NIT.Lamar will also take part in the Houston Baptist Classic on Nov. 26-27, facing Portland State and UMKC and in the ASU Classic at Arizona State with Cal Poly and New Mexico on Dec. 3-4.The Lady Cardinals will face Pat Summitt and the Tennessee Lady Vols at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 in Knoxville, Tenn.“It’s another step for the women’s basketball program to consistently be in the top 100 nationally,†Tidwell said. “We’ve scheduled some top teams, and we’re going to continue to do so.â€Highlights of the home schedule include a pair of doubleheaders with the Lamar men’s basketball team. On Jan. 4, the Lady Cardinals will take on Houston at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game against Louisiana College at 7:35 p.m. On Jan. 12, McNeese State comes in for a Southland Conference doubleheader, with the women’s teams squaring off at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:35 p.m.The Lamar men’s and women’s teams will close out the regular season with a doubleheader at McNeese State on March 5.The Southland Conference Tournament is slated for March 8-12 at the Leonard E.
