Ill ask the good people who support the BISD football teams this one question. Do you think that there is a better choice for the name of the facility? No smart you know what Im mean involved. Aside from the names of the football teams themselves what would you have called it? I just do not see that being on the top of anyones list. I have heard he did this or he did that for our district> I heard he passed the bond to build the stadium. I once again cannot believe that whomever you would have chosen to be there had you not hired him would have also put forth a bond to help the good school district of beaumont. I appreciate what he has done in Beaumont but there are some great figures who have come from there IE Alex Durley or Willie Ray Smith and on and on. Sorry not to offend anyone from Beaumont just do not like the choice of name.

I've said it before, that I didn't agree with the name of the stadium.  Would have rathered BISD Stadium.  Durley or Zaharius are already names of stadiums... Willie Ray Smith or Spindletop would have been ok.  But it is what it is.  The stadium is here, so lets go win some ball games...

What they should have done is sold the rights to the name of the complex "Toyota Athletic Complex of Beaumont ISD", etc and if they wanted to name something "Butch Thomas Field House, Field, etc.  Then the money for the rights to the name could go to the upkeep on the complex.  Turf does not last forever, you have to replace it every so often.

I went by the stadium today to check on the progress being made. It has come a long way, but still has a long way to go before it is ready to accomodate a crowd for a football game. They have less than a week to get it where it's playable for football. I hope they make it. I will try to post a few snapshots that I took, but this site's server is fighting me on the pics......I cant make it work. It says my file is too big. If someone can tell me how to post pics, I will gladly do it.

Apple Springs’ game against King’s Academy was stopped just minutes before halftime on Thursday night and was not resumed. According to Apple Springs head coach and superintendent Cody Moree, the game was stopped due to safety concerns for the players. “We came out on fire, and we had a takeaway on their first series,” Moree said. “We scored every time we had the ball and built a big enough lead that we thought we might get a 45-point lead before half (which would have ended the game).   “A couple of our players were targeted on some plays that didn’t get called. We had a play where we hit a guy late on a tackle and we got flagged for it. “Players came off their bench and several of their fans came over the fence and there were verbal threats made toward our players.”   At that point, I went to the head official and told him that we were taking our kids off the field for their safety and the game was over.” Moree and his team went into the fieldhouse at that point and remained there until the stadium was cleared. “We didn’t forfeit anything,” Moree said. “I’m proud of our students and how we played and we handled ourselves in that situation.” Apple Springs will host Leverett’s Chapel on Friday.

      no, no you can not get a better idea when district starts.  they can go 0-4 predistrict and run the house in district because its so weak.
