jayhawk Posted August 22, 2010 Author Report Posted August 22, 2010
sorry i dont, but DAYTON WILL WIN
:D ;) ;D
Tyrone_Biggums Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Dayton is going to poop on Fort Bend.
jayhawk Posted August 22, 2010 Author Report Posted August 22, 2010 Can't remember his name ,but one of the Houston Oilers kids is playing for Fort Bend and is a D-1 prospect !
Hawkeye Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Just glancing at the Houston Chronicle stats: they were 8 - 3 last year and lost in the first round to Clear Springs. Looks like they mix it up pretty well (if it's the same offense this year) between the run and pass. 2100 pass yds. & 1700 on the ground. QB is back as a junior. Their enrollment numbers look to be close to Daytons. Don't really know anything else about them.
Mike George Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010
Can't remember his name ,but one of the Houston Oilers kids is playing for Fort Bend and is a D-1 prospect !
Bruce Matthews' son and he plays center so he'll be head-to-head with Darrian Wright. Should be a battle and good test for both. The Elks are large, just like most 5A teams and they have a lot of depth. A lot will depend on conditioning which I know is good with Dayton, but have no idea about the Elks. The Elks will have few, if any two-way players. Of course our improved depth will help a lot and if we can work our guys in and out on a consistent basis, fatigue should not be an element of the game. IMO
gary-us-bonds Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 I would venture to guess that Dayton will win this one just from everything I have heard and seen thus far.
jabu84 Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 they are strong on the lines and DB's. weak at LB and RB
ryannygaard Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Will be difficult test for Dayton. Wouldn't be surprised if Dayton loses.
Mike George Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 They list only one QB on their roster, a soph, Jake Burkhalter, 5-9, 170.Sr. Jake Matthews, 6-4, 270 is the offensive center and son of former Houston Oiler, Bruce Matthews. There is another Matthews on the roster, a soph Michael, 6-2, 240, I guess a brother, but in a district that big who knows for sure. They are definitely large on both fronts, but then what's not shown on the roster is how much time they've put into the weight room, speed, etc. Dayton has played teams with bigger kids before so playing a team this size is nothing new.
gary-us-bonds Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Jake Matthews is the one that graduated last year right? He went to A&M if I'm not mistaken.

Mike George Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 http://elkinsfootball.com/schedule.php Here is the football site - it goes to the schedule which shows 2010. If you click on roster, it evidently shows last year's roster. There is an article in today's Ft. Bend Sun that refers to Burkhalter as a junior which if correct nullifies the roster on this site as 2010's as it shows him as a So.http://www.hcnonline.com/articles/2010/08/22//fort_bend_sun/sports//fb_prev_-_elkins_knights.txtThat being the case, the younger Matthews will have his work cut out for him.

Ya' know, keep it classy.
gary-us-bonds Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Really wish I could make it to this one since they are playing right across the street from my house. I'll be at the Lee-Sterling game though. Hope someone keeps us up to date, as I will be on this site looking for updates.
the_dude_abides Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Talked to a guy I worked with who has a kid enrolled at FB Elkins. He says the kids at Elkins think that they are going to beat Dayton pretty easily. I really like that we scheduled some tough competition at the beginning of the season. Heckuva litmus test.

the_dude_abides Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Yeah, I guess they don't think much of our football skills or toughness.
BrenhamFan Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 I love when 5A programs have that mentality... Time for a reality check!
Guest johnsmith1982 Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 I will take Dayton by a Touchdown in this one.
BrenhamFan Posted August 23, 2010 Report Posted August 23, 2010 Good luck Broncos, from west of the Brazos... Enlighten those boys on how we play football in 4A! ;) :D ;D
