Yea, yea, yea. That's the only reason we have those state championship trophies, Burkeville kids.

My point is this.. Burkeville has 35 plus years of winning tradition, under Coach Roy Harper.. Barbay has his success as well. Even when Newton and all the area schools program was not as successful as our program at that time, never  has Burkeville's Adminstration ever talked down on another school program or kids.. Barbey is viewed as a community leader and educator, and never should a with person his leadership role ever low rate children. He is put in position to elavated and motivate kids not tear them down. Every program at some point has to regroup and rebuild.. just because we lost a few games doesnt mean our kids are sorry. I have always supported Newton as well as Burkeville, because I have family in both districts.I have always respected Barbay as well but as from this moment on..I will continue to support the children of Newton

You are entitled to your opinion. I don't quite think facts will back you up on some of your statements. Coach Harper has been a very fine coach at Burkeville, but to say Burkeville's program has out shined Newton and all other area programs is more than a bit of a stretch. Barbay is far from the Henry Kissinger of high school coaches, but says what he thinks, and this is not anything new.

check your history... Burkeville has a been successful ever since Coach Harper came to burkeville which was about 35 + years ago.. Maybe I should break my statement down for you.. I didnt say Burkeville program has out shined Newton and all area programs.. what I said was that during the time Newton any of the other area programs were under going a rebuild and Burkeville was not.. Our Administration --ie.. Coach Harper.. did not dogg the other programs for not winning games during certain periods throughout the years..  No we continued to play our football and mined our own business. Like Barbay should do. If he isnt trying to help the children then he needs to shut up and sit down.  Not aid in making the situation worse.. and as parent I surely don't want somebody with that attitude, coaching my kid.. And you wonder y u need security at some of these local area games.. Our schools are in the same county, I wonder if Barbay ever stop to think that he may be talking about some his players family members? And how that may affect his players, calling thier family sorry..?

Once again I will say your making a mountain out of a mole hill. He did not name any names or positions or coaches. I'm not saying he was right in saying what he said, but he also should not be thrown under the bus by you or anyone else from Burkeville. You've had your feelings hurt. I can tell you first hand that your not the first. He has achieved the success he has by not coddling anyone or their feelings. If your not up to par he will tell you in no uncertain terms. This is not only the way he coaches, but the way he speaks in public. Good or bad. He has proven himself to be able to take average athletes and make good athletes out of them. He has also shown he can take good athletes and make great athletes out of them. Maybe Burkeville's program could learn a thing or two from him currently.

No I am not making a mountian, out of a mole.. he didnt have call any names because he said that Burkeville was the sorriest team to ever put on a uniform. so what would be the need to call names, when you just spoke about the team as a whole? Face it.. right is right and wrong is wrong.. And win or lose, good coach or bad, Barbay was wrong for his statement about that group of kids. Just because he is a good coach does not make him above reprimand, no matter how many wins he has had. Especially when those same sorry kids parents , pay his salary every month with our tax dollars.

When and where were these comments supposedly made?  Just curious since many of these "Barbay put my team down" things are retroactive interpretations.

i.e.

Reporter:  "Coach you just won another game by a large margin, how does this make you feel about the playoff run ahead?"

Barbay:  "Well, we havent beat anyone good yet so I would not get too excited."

(or some approximation)

Got turned into "Barbay said <My Team> was no good" became "Barbay said we...blah blah telephone game to infinity"

I wish that was the case, a comment that was just turned around.. but Barbay specifically called Burkeville team the sorriest team to ever put on a uniform. it was on the front page of the Newton County News paper about 2 weeks. He said it during a lucheon. We at Burkeville was stunned, because we have never had any type of  problems with Barbay. So we are dumb found as to why he would just single out our school?

newton county news paper does not have full articles online.. but you can call the paper @ 409-379-2416 and try to get a copy of the article. It ran on the front page of the Newton county paper about 2 weeks ago. he is speaking at lucheon at the loins club. I sure the paper will be happy to get u a copy of the article. he is speaking about the eagles and what to expect this year, and all of sudden he starts talking about how sorry our team is and how those type of kids get other kids hurt by standing around on the field.  anyway contact them and read it for yourself. Why were we even brought up? I've never had a problem with Barbay always respect him as person and a coach until now.

he has been saying that about kirbyville just about every week the past five years and you dont see anyone from there demanding an apology.  Your school and community is just going to have to get used to that.  Thats him, take it or leave it, and I promise you the community of Newton is not going to leave it.  Its not like your telling them anything they dont aready know.  They have accepted him for who he is and thats all that matters.  Your preaching into the wind, its time to get brush it off and get over it!!

that's whats wrong with this picture.. Barbay is not above anyone else, he can't just go areound saying what ever jsut because he is barbay.. he is not the only coach in this area with winning traditions.. they are plenty of schools in this beaumont/ jasper / newton area with great coaches, but they are not out dogging other schools.. Thats completely uncalled for.

yes they are!  they just dont do it in front of media or nosey people that might make something of it.  The only difference between all the coaches your are referring to and Barbay is that he lets it slip when he shouldnt sometimes.  Thats all!!

Here is what was said in the paper. "The last game will be with Kountze. Last year, well Burkeville was playing too, but they had to be one of the sorriest teams that put on uniforms. They've got to be better because you don't get no worse than they were. Now that's the kind of game you really hate to play because that's the kind of game that you get people hurt in. Guys will be standing around and somebody will get a knee hurt, twist an ankle, something like that." He was speaking to a hometown lions club meeting and giving a game by game run down of the season. Something he has done for years.

dude get over it. he isnt gonna apologize. you cant do anything or make him do anything whinin. you beat him then there mite be room for an apology. the only difference is he dont care what anybody thinks and says what he means and tells it to whoever whenever. not just in the locker room lik ALL the other teams. suck it up. its football!!!!
