KFDM COOP Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 http://blog.beaumontenterprise.com/huddle/2010/09/08/vidor-coach-mathews-apologizes/
Gabe Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 In my mind Jeff didn't need to apologize. Is he the first coach to ever argue a call like that? It happens on an almost weekly basis in every sport. He fought for what he thought was right. Kudos to the man.
Guest LR1969 Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Nothing more the man can do but apologize and make amends. He's doing that so, unless I have a spotless record behind me...(Let me check -- No, I don't have one)...I will have to accept his apology and wish him well. As for his role-model comment, accepting responsiblity for your mistakes and being man enough to admit it when you're wrong, is probably the best "role-model" attribute he can pass on to his players. God bless!

fwstangs Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Awesome - we can all learn from this example. This is the kind of role model behavior we all love to see. Other coaches (and us fans) should all follow suit. Thanks for sharing!
ftbbbl101 Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 I totally agree. Coach Mathews is a passionate coach and emotions run high. Totally agree with apologizing being a big part of being a role model. Mathews is a great guy. But, as Gabe said, I thought nothing more than a coach arguing a call in any sport. Best of luck to Coach Mathews and the Pirates the remainder of the season.
TITAN POWER Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 I know the call that his face was spread all over the TV and Enterprise (with creative editing). He doesn't have to apologize for a thing. Stuck up for his team, like a coach should.
vhs Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Coach Matthews is all class and had nothing to apologize for... that crew was a disgrace

bpt712 Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Mathews had nothing to be sorry about. He is a man of great character..Have you ever heard of Dan Hooks apologize for his rants on the field. No I think not ....nothing against the man great coach.

I'd like to add that the call had no bearing on the outcome of the game...BC is the real deal, they whipped us.

Guest jhamilton Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 At least Coach M has the guts to man up for his mistake. Best sermon he could ever give to any of us and sure he is a great man by what I read. Good luck to Coach M and Vidor bc sounds like you guys got a good one to lead the way.
HoopInsider_Cooper Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Just curious, but why was Coach Hooks brought into this conversation?Old Timer: I have no idea where the crew was from. Wasn't Beaumont Chapter.
He didn't make a mistake so there was nothing to apologize for. ??? But we do need to stop useing these Houston left overs. There is a reason why they are not selected to do the games in Houston. Lets start useing some our local officiating again.
bojonomore Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Definately, that was an honorable thing for Coach Matthews to do. Now its time for those refs to do the same...
